Infecta
Alika (better known by Infecta) is a young and talented upcoming musician, artist, model and designer who spend 10 years in Lagos, Nigeria and 10 years in London and is now based in London. His work has been published by RWD, South London Press, Guardian, KIX Mag, Southbank Magazine, GRM Daily and SB.TV. Infecta has performed alongside Tinie Tempah, Labrinth, Jessie J, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks, Ed Sheeran, and Emeli Sande. As a designer he has co-designer and consulted with top UK brands since 2009 and in 2015 is set to launch his first full début of his clothing label I and I. From featuring in adverts for Pepsi to working with the likes of Nike and Adidas, Infecta has appeared on Channel 4, BBC, SKY1, ITV & MTV and will be in Tarzan The Untamed to be released in 2016.Amaal Said
Amaal Said is a member of the Barbican Young Poets and Burn After Reading collectives. Her work explores the idea of home, identity and what war has meant for her family. She is a 19 year-old Danish-born Somali who currently resides in London, UK.Anna Chen
Anna Chen is a writer, poet and broadcaster who was born and raised in Hackney, east London, by a Chinese father and an English mother. She is an Orwell Prize shortlisted blogger, and writes and presents programmes for BBC radio and Resonance FM. Her collection of poetry — Reaching for my Gnu — is published by Aaaargh! Antosh Wojcik is a poet, performer and writer. He has been a featured act at events such as Glastonbury's Poetry & Words Stage, Bang Said The Gun, Tilt, Tongue Fu, Apples and Snakes’ Big Talk and The Last Word Festival at the Roundhouse, and was joint Roundhouse Poetry Slam Champion 2013. He uses language as a form of striptease.Colin Mayer
Colin is currently the Peter Moores Professor of Management Studies at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and the first Director of the Oxford Financial Research Centre between 1998 and 2005. His research interests include corporate finance, governance, regulation and taxation. He has worked on international comparisons of financial systems and corporate governance and their effects on the financing and control of corporations. Colin has been a fellow at Harvard University and the Bank of England and has had visiting positions at Université de Bruxelles, Columbia, MIT and Stanford universities. He has consulted for numerous large corporations and for governments, regulators and international agencies around the world and was the chairman of Oxera Ltd. one of the largest independent economics consultancies in Europe.Diana Nammi
Diana has dedicated her life to campaigning for universal human rights. She spent 12 years on the front-line as a Peshmerger (Kurdish freedom fighter) but eventually her activism in Kurdistan Iran and neighbouring countries resulted in her facing persecution, which forced her to flee. She now lives in the UK and in 2002 she founded the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO) an NGO providing advice, advocacy, training and counselling women and girls from Middle Eastern and North African communities affected by so called “honour” based violence, including forced marriage and Female Genital Mutilation and domestic violence. As Executive Director she leads IKWRO’s campaigning and successes have included the Justice for Banaz campaign which lead to the first extradition from Kurdistan Iraq to the UK of two of the perpetrators of the “honour” killing and the criminalisation of forced marriage in the UK in 2014.Diane Coyle
Diane Coyle is a Professor of Economics at the University of Manchester and runs the consultancy Enlightenment Economics. She has been a BBC Trustee for eight years, and was formerly a member of the Migration Advisory Committee and the Competition Commission. She specialises in the economics of new technologies, globalisation, and competition policy, and has worked extensively on the impacts of mobile telephony in developing countries. Diane believes economics is so important that everyone should be able to join in the public debate, and is passionate about communicating the subject. She was previously Economics Editor of The Independent and before that worked at the Treasury and in the private sector as an economist. She has a PhD from Harvard. Emily Penn is an oceans advocate, skipper and artist; a graduate of Cambridge University with a degree in Architecture; and Director of global organisation Pangaea Explorations. As much at home in and on the water as she is on dry land, Emily's ability to develop and communicate solutions for challenges facing today's society has been sharpened by a diverse portfolio of unique experiences. She has organised the largest ever community led waste clean-up from a tiny Tongan island, trawled for micro plastics on a voyage through the Arctic northwest passage, rounded the planet on the record-breaking biofuelled boat Earthrace, and worked on a sailing cargo ship trading western supplies for coconuts.Felicity de Zulueta
Felicity's current work focuses on the origins and transmission of violence down the generations and its role in understanding why people become violent, making sense of fundamentalism and current terrorist activities. Including promoting the use of a new therapeutic approach for traumatised adults, Video Interaction Guidance with their children. She gives lectures and runs training workshops on these subjects in the UK and abroad in Spanish, Italian or French. Felicity is an Emeritus Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Traumatic Studies at Kings College London.Jacob Sam-La Rose
Jacob Sam-La Rose is a poet, educator and artistic director of youth poetry and literature in education programmes. He is widely recognised as a tireless facilitator, mentor and supporter of young and emerging writers, and as an advocate for the positive impact of new technology on literary and artistic practice and collaboration.Jay Stewart
Jay is co-founder of Gendered Intelligence and chairs the Board of Directors. Gendered Intelligence aims is to increase understandings of gender diversity through creative ways. It's vision is of a world where people are no longer constrained by narrow perceptions and expectations of gender, and where diverse gender expressions are visible and valued. Gendered Intelligence is committed to the idea that everyone can be intelligent about gender. Jay carries out and oversees the main activities that take place across the organisation. Recently Jay has lead on the projects: ‘What makes your gender? Hacking into the Science Museum’ and ‘GI’s Anatomy: a life drawing project for trans and intersex people’. Jay facilitates sessions for young trans people and is also a mentor for young trans people.John Dolan
John Dolan is one of East London’s most notorious artists. For three years Dolan sat every day with his dog George on Shoreditch High Street and documented the surrounding architecture, elevating the old, decrepit buildings that are so often ignored and under-appreciated. In the past, Dolan was in and out of prison and has experienced homelessness for the past 20 years. Dolan’s raw portrayals of the street lead a viewer to reconsider something that to them is merely a backdrop to their day. At the same time, he highlights how too often people living on the street are invisible to those walking past them. Dolan’s work asks us to open our eyes and see this city for what it really is.John Parry
John Parry has been through the wars emotionally and this pain bleeds through his music. This 17 year old singer/songwriter from Poplar has been making a name for himself across East London since winning the XLP Arts Showcase Final in 2013. Influenced by the likes of Jamie T, The Streets, Jake Bugg, Saint Raymond and Paolo Nutini, John has crafted his own aggressively vulnerable styled Love songs which he executes in a uniquely intense performance. Over the last two years John has performed at the likes of Love box, the Mermaid Theatre in Blackfriars, Greenbelt festival, Toynbee theatre and Richmix in Shoreditch.Julia Middleton
Julia is passionate about helping people to develop as leaders and supporting them to make a tangible contribution to their communities and to wider society. In 1989, Julia formed Common Purpose, a not-for-profit social enterprise. Common Purpose runs leadership development programmes that enable people from different backgrounds, sectors, geographies and generations to work together to solve common problems. Common Purpose now runs local programmes for leaders in cities across the world, and its global programmes bring together leaders from over 100 countries across six continents. Laurie is an American visual effects artist for film, working on the main digital characters for movies like Paddington, Guardians of the Galaxy and Gravity. She is the Head of Rigging at Framestore, one of the largest visual effects companies in the world. She has been living in London since 2003. In 2010 Laurie was recognized for her work on Dobby in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 by the Visual Effects Society for Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture. She graduated in 2001 from Full Sail University in Orlando Florida, where she was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2011. Laurie is currently working on Warner Brothers' Jungle Book, Marvel's Avengers and knitting a blanket for her new nephew, Sawyer.Marianne Freiberger
Marianne Freiberger is Editor of Plus, a free online maths magazine which opens a door to the world of mathematics for everyone. Plus explores the beauty, power and applications of maths, revealing its role in all areas of life, from science to philosophy and from sports to art. Before joining Plus in 2005 Marianne was a mathematician at Queen Mary, University of London, having completed her PhD there in 2001. Her research was in pure mathematics, investigating chaotic dynamical systems and those beautiful geometric structures called fractals. Together with Rachel Thomas she has written the popular maths book Numericon: A journey through the hidden lives of numbers (Quercus 2014) and was co-editor of 50: Visions of mathematics (Oxford University Press 2014).Mike Holdsworth
Mike grew up in a small fishing village on the North Yorkshire Coast called Robin Hood's Bay. He graduated University and left for the big village of London. An avid science fiction reader in his youth, Mike has found himself more by luck than judgement working in the satellite communications industry for the past 18 years and within the telecoms industry for several years prior. He still finds it weird that he earns a living based on a 1945 proposal by Arthur C. Clarke for Geostationary Satellite Communications. Mike is currently the Aero Technical Specialist for the Global Government unit at Inmarsat. His work is predominantly focused on developing bespoke satellite communications solutions for airplanes, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Mike utilises his extensive experience to advise on interoperability between disparate networks in a disaster management scenario.Naji El-Arifi
Naji is a Product Innovation Manager at Somo, a mobile marketing and connected solutions company. He has been at Somo since January 2011, starting out as a Product Manager after finishing an MA in Creative Planning and working with Samsung reviewing and blogging about their upcoming products. As a product manager, Naji managed multiple projects for Audi including its mobile site and innovative visitor experiences for Goodwood and LeMans. Now, he puts his creative problem solving to the test for companies such as Shop Direct Group, De Beers, Audi and BP using mobile and connected devices to solve industry problems. His current role within the innovation team at Somo also has him running internal and external hack days and running the Innovation Lab where the company showcases the hottest new technologies and software. Naji considers himself born a massive geek and since building a full scale model of the solar system at the age of 12, has never turned back.Precious Lunga
recious is currently Head of Health at the global telecoms company Econet Wireless, where she has established a business unit to improve access to health services across Africa by leveraging the mobile phone network. Prior to that, she worked at UNAIDS Geneva where she was involved in spearheading the implementation of HIV prevention programs. She was also strategic advisor to the UK’s second largest charitable foundation, funding programs across Africa and India. As a vocal advocate for the right to health and education, Precious was instrumental in bringing together diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, universities, and trial participants, who included almost ten thousand African women in anti-HIV microbicide trials whilst she was at the UK Medical Research Council.Samantha Moyo
Samantha Moyo is an entrepreneur and the co-founder of a global franchise that produces the highly acclaimed and influential Morning Gloryville events. Pioneers of early morning healthy raving, the start-up specialises in immersive experiences that empower and unite, infusing connectivity, energy and wellbeing into cities around the world. Growing up between Zimbabwe and the UK, Sam has welded her leanings from these different environments and works to bridge gaps and unite people from varied walks of life. Siân explores new experiences with computing, from amplifying effectiveness to creating delight and wonder. Her research on technologies in use and the everyday practices that are built up around them is underpinned by processes of design, making, and social science. She does this in collaboration with the Human Experience & Design group. Her recent work explores how people manage and keep the digital content they care about, whether they feel a sense of ownership of it, and how this is changing in a landscape of Cloud computing, Web 2.0, and operating systems that hide folder hierarchies away. Part of this research entails considering how the actions that digital content support can be redesigned to support a stronger sense of possession. Siân has a PhD in Psychology from the University of York and an MSc in Human-Centred Computing Systems from the University of Sussex. She has worked at Microsoft Research since 2007.
