Baba Brinkman

Baba Brinkman is a Canadian rap artist, award-winning playwright, and former tree-planter who has personally planted more than one million trees. Best known for his "Rap Guide" series of plays and albums, Baba has toured the world and enjoyed successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and off-Broadway in New York. The Rap Guide to Religion was nominated for a 2015 Drama Desk Award in the category "Unique Theatrical Experience" and The Rap Guide to Evolution (“Astonishing and brilliant” NY Times), won a Scotsman Fringe First Award and a Drama Desk Award nomination for "Outstanding Solo Performance", and was featured on US national TV on The Rachel Maddow Show and at the Seattle Science Festival opening for Stephen Hawking. In 2014 the show enjoyed a sold-out week at the Sydney Opera House.

Bjarke Ingels

Bjarke Ingels started BIG Bjarke Ingels Group in 2005 after co-founding PLOT Architects in 2001 and working at the Office of Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Through a series of award-winning design projects and buildings, Bjarke has developed a reputation for designing buildings that are as programmatically and technically innovative as they are cost and resource conscious. Bjarke has received numerous awards and honors, including the Danish Crown Prince’s Culture Prize in 2011, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2004, and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Award for Excellence in 2009.

Colin Miles Campbell

The entrepreneur, artist and community activist has worked as a concept designer for the past 18 years. He’s conceived and executed hundreds of high-profile projects for Fortune 500 companies and artists, such as AC Giannini, Chanel, Clockwork Apple, Chautauqua Ballet, David Copperfield, ENK Shows, Eve Sussman, Jacobo Borges, Nevada Ballet & Theatre Company, NYFestivals, Peter Brandt, Safilo East & West, Shotgun Productions, TED, Topiary Productions, William Jefferson Clinton, Urs Fischer, and the Washington Ballet.

Dawn Goldworm

Dawn’s rare abilities in synesthesia (blending her sense of sight, touch, sound and smell), guide 12.29’s unique scent creation process, transforming branding into a complete sensory experience.

Dion Flynn

Comedian/actor DION FLYNN is best known as Barack Obama on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and has over 45 appearances as 14 different characters on both The Tonight Show & Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Cited by Oprah Magazine as “one of our favorite creative thinkers...” Dion has led workshops in mental agility via improvisation, with clients from Booz Allen Hamilton and Price Waterhouse Coopers to Ecolab and Herman Miller. Dion’s voice-overs and on-camera national commercials include clients like Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Verizon. Dion also makes live Obama appearances all over the world. He served overseas as a soldier and performer in the US Army for 4 years. His theater history includes Shakespeare in the Park, The Public Theater and The Guthrie. Dion is co-creator of Clanging w/Josh and Dion with How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor and a principal member of NYC’s longest running improv ensemble: Big Black Car.

Dr. David Phillips

David L. Phillips is currently Director of the Program on Peace-building and Rights at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights. Phillips has worked as a senior adviser to the United Nations Secretariat and as a foreign affairs expert and senior adviser to the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Elke Weber

Elke U. Weber is the Jerome A. Chazen Professor of International Business as well as Earth Institute Professor at Columbia University. Elke received her B.A. degree in psychology (summa cum laude) from York University in Canada and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard in Behavior and Decision Analysis. Her research examines human decision-making under risk and uncertainty, specifically in financial and environmental contexts. At Columbia, she founded and co-directs the Center for Decision Sciences (CDS), which generates and facilitates interdisciplinary decision research relevant to the needs of real world decision makers, and the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions (CRED), which investigates ways of facilitating human adaptation to climate change and climate variability.

Dr. Kyra Gaunt

Dr. Kyra Gaunt is a digital media scholar, a professor at Baruch College at the City University of New York, and an inaugural TED Fellow. She is the author of The Games Black Girls Play: Learning the Ropes from Double-Dutch to Hip-Hop (NYUP), winner of the Alan Merriam Book Prize in ethnomusicology. She brings her experience as a black classically-trained musician and jazz improviser to her study of music, technology, and marginalized groups with a particular interest in algorithms, invisible audiences, and the unintended consequences of growing up online.

Eddie Gavagan

In his day job, Ed Gavagan is the owner of PraxisNYC, a design/build firm practicing across a broad spectrum. Ed creates homes and furniture for fancy people and humble folk the world over. In 2009, Ed began telling stories with The Moth at a StorySLAM in Manhattan. Since then, he has won a Moth GrandSLAM and contributed to The Moth Mainstage events. He was featured numerous times on The Moth iTunes podcast, the Peabody-award-winning Moth Radio Hour on public radio, and one of his stories was included in the NY Times best-selling Moth Story Book. Ed gave a talk at TEDMed2012 and was on the stage/production design team for TEDMed 2013 and 2014. He is represented by William Morris Endeavor as a writer and a speaker. Ed lives in Manhattan with his wife and daughter.

Jason Wishnow

Jason Wishnow is the filmmaker behind TED Talks, the Peabody Award winning video series watched over one billion times (even in outer space). Wishnow works at the intersection of film and emerging technologies and has been called “no stranger to difficult shoots” (Wired UK, 2014), an “online-video virtuoso” (New York Times, 2009), the “enfant terrible of digital film” (The Guardian, 2000), and one of the ten most influential digital filmmakers of 1999 (RES Magazine). In the Spring of 2016, a candid photograph of Wishnow riding the New York subway went viral. In this Talk, Wishnow shares that story (along with some of the secrets of TED Talks, including the origin of the big, round, red TED rug).

Julian Zelizer

Julian Zelizer is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He is the author and editor of 17 books on American political history and writes a weekly column for CNN.Com.

Justin Trawick

Justin Trawick has been performing in the Washington DC Area and along the East Coast since 2006, citing musical influences like Bob Schneider, The Tallest Man on Earth, G. Love, Old Crow Medicine Show, and David Gray. In June of 2015, Trawick released his first single with his band “Justin Trawick and the Common Good.” Written about the search for direction and belonging in a world that constantly feels one step ahead of you, “Goodbye” is available for download on iTunes along with a music video documenting the recording session available on YouTube. The band has opened for over 30 national acts including Suzanne Vega, Brett Dennen, Blues Traveler, Bob Schneider, and Edwin McCain, and shared bills with Dr. Dogg and The Avett Brothers. Founder of the nationally touring show “The 9 Songwriter Series” and co-founder of “The Circus Life Podcast" with guests such as Kevin Eubanks, Chris Thomas King, Ernie Halter, Yarn, and Snuffy Walden.

Katrina Cunningham

Katrina Cunningham is a singer-songwriter and actress currently playing Emilie in Les Liaison Dangereuses with Janet Mcteer and Liev Schreiber. The SUNY Purchase Dance Conservatory Graduate got her start in Baroque-Burlesque Operas with Company XIV. In 2016, she made her Broadway Debut playing Lila in Cirque Du Soleil's, PARAMOUR, for which she co-wrote Lila's score to suit her singular voice. She frequents The Mckittrick Hotel (Sleep No More) as the Master of Ceremonies and the New York Times has compared her vocal stylings to Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey, describing that the "standout spots belong to the sultry-voiced Katrina Cunningham who brings an exquisite indie-siren quality..." She remains an independent artist who recently sold out Joe's Pub and is currently in post production for her debut album. Kat Cunning is an hourglass chanteuse with whom an hour is never enough. Linda Holliday

Linda Holliday has been at the forefront of digital media for 20 years as an entrepreneur and investor. She is now the founder and CEO of Citia, a Mobile-Era, card technology for multi-platform publishing. Citia has attracted clients as diverse as GE, Viacom, MasterCard, Fidelity, Estée Lauder and Snoop Dogg. She holds a BFA in Design and a Wharton MBA. Prior to Citia, she co-founded several businesses including Medical Broadcasting Company, now Digitas Health, (part of Publicis Groupe) where she served as President. She lives in New York where she is an angel investor and teaches in the School of Visual Arts Masters of Design Entrepreneurship program.

Professor Dan Ariely

Despite our intentions, why do we so often fail to act in our own best interest? Why do we promise to skip the chocolate cake, only to find ourselves drooling our way into temptation when the dessert tray rolls around? Why do we overvalue things that we’ve worked to put together? What are the forces that influence our behavior? Dan Ariely, James B. Duke Professor of Psychology & Behavioral Economics at Duke University, is dedicated to answering these questions and others in order to help people live more sensible – if not rational – lives. His interests span a wide range of behaviors, and his sometimes unusual experiments are consistently interesting, amusing and informative, demonstrating profound ideas that fly in the face of common wisdom.

Sarah Sandman

Sarah Sandman is an artist and designer living in Brooklyn, NY. Her work uses design to create social experiences that bring people together, such as her Gift Cycle project, in which she helped neighboring communities exchange gifts of art. Sandman is a 2015 TED Fellow and holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is the co-director of the design studio and community lab, Public Displays of Affection (PDA). PDA builds social capital with communication design, creating visual identities for causes and experiences that enhance our sense of interconnectedness. Community and the environment are at the forefront of PDA's design process.
