The upcoming talk of TEDxHKBU themed "Think Like a Freak" - which illustrates the idea of 'The Power of Thinking Different'. All speakers come from a wide diversity of cultures and backgrounds yet they all have one thing in common, they are all individuals who, think in a different way.

Alvin Leung

With his trademark colour-streaked hair, cross earrings and sunglasses, Chef Alvin Leung has blazed a revolutionary trail in the culinary arts. As chef owner of the acclaimed modern Chinese restaurant Bo Innovation, Leung’s unique dishes and taste sensations established him as one of the world’s top culinary innovators.

Bobby Chan

Bobby, sometimes are referred to as the “Storypreneur” for his ability to stir up people with stories he consumed or witnessed. He was a self-taught journalist by passion with CNN-iReport and Al Jazeera. Right now he is thrilled to be a journalist that goes beyond news, disseminating ‘’Good News’’ to awaken, ignite and unite people. Recently, he has launched an online platform – StoryHolic - an inspirational website which gather and disseminate stories of failure and breakthrough.

Hing Chao

Hing Chao graduated at Durham University in 2000. Since then he has pursued a cross-sector career in education, culture, philanthropy, and business. Deeply committed to preserving the cultural heritage of China, he is a pioneer in the research and revitalization of many of its endangered aspects, from Chinese martial arts and sports to minority music, material culture and knowledge systems.

Jason Polley

Jason S Polley completed his PhD in English Literature, specializing in 20th-century Irish fiction and postmodern American fiction and culture. Before joining HKBU in 2007, he lived in and taught at universities in Bogota, Colombia, and Guayaquil, Ecuador. He enjoys traveling and has  spent considerable time in India, where he completed a yoga teacher-training course, the Philippines, where he qualified as a rescue scuba-diver, and Indonesia, where he's dived with scores of reef sharks and manta rays. He also enjoys skateboarding at Hong Kong's numerous skateparks and hiking Hong Kong's innumerable mountain trails. His scholarly work includes articles on women and property in John Banville, critical race theory in Jane Smiley, and suburban ideology in Neill Blomkamp. His monograph examines what he calls 'everyday justice' in contemporary American literature.

Jim Chim

Jim Chim is a rare multi-talented performing artist who often crosses boundaries. Over the past two decades, he has more than 60 theatre titles under his belt, displaying a distinguished Hong Kong flavour. He has performed over 1,000 shows of various kinds, drawing more than 2 million audiences. Jim’s talent shines not only on the stage but also in film and television. Many Hong Kong and mainland Chinese A-list stars have studied after Jim, including Charlene Choi of Canto-pop duo Twins, Isabella Leung, Gillian Chung, etc.

Joanne Leung

Joanne was born into a male body, but in 2009 decided to undergo a transgender surgery after more than 40 years’ struggle of identity. Joanne is now recognized as a female in all of her official identity documents, but she still insists on her identity of a transgender person and the fact that she loves female as her sexual orientation. Joanne pays every efforts to provide support among transgender groups, and often cooperate with the government and medical institutions in discussions and operations about supports for transgender persons. Joanne founded the Transgender Resource Center in 2008 in Hong Kong, and became the president of the center. She is the chairperson of the Pink Alliance, and a member of the executive of the Hong Kong Women Christian Council, committing herself to provide information as well as resources to transgender community and even to all people in need in the society.

Keith Li

Keith Li is the co-founder and CEO of Innopage Limited, a mobile applications development startup. Since 2010, Keith had led Innopage to receive numberous HKICT awards for its innovative technology and products. Kieth is currently a guest lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University, Executive Committee Member of Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (HKWTIA), and Radio Spectrum and Technical Standards Advisory Committee for Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). Keith is also a regular contributor of various printed and online media, including Hong Kong Economic Journal, The Stand News, Pentoy and others.

Light Lin

Light Lin co-founded WRETCH with NCTU classmates Wretch Chien in 2003. He was CEO and Chairman of WRETCH, leading the team to achieve 200M TWD revenue in 2006 as milestone and symbol of Taiwan Web 2.0 entrepreneurs. WRETCH became second largest website in Taiwan within 3 years, and been acquired by Yahoo! in 2007. Before Facebook taking over the social landscape in Taiwan, WRETCH was dominating Taiwan Community sites, with over 10M monthly unique visitors and once ranked #16 globally on Alexa. Besides WRETCH, Light was also head of Social Blog Products in Yahoo! APAC, and jointly contribute to Yahoo! Global Social Strategy.

Mo Lai

Lai Yan Chi, Mo is named as one of Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons and Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador with her contribution in Hong Kong arts and films. She is the president of the FM Theatre Power (FMTP), and was granted the Young Artists Award of Hong Kong Arts Development Awards as well as the Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators.
