Angad Ranyal
CNN IBN rated Angad Singh Ranyal as one of the top 20 stand-up comedians in India. He has performed in more than 150 shows across 6 cities and is a regular feature at the Canvas Laugh Club, The Comedy Store and a series of East India Comedy shows. Angad is an alumnus of NMIMS. He spoke of his incredible journey from being a management graduate to turning into a full-time comedian. A practical man, he spoke about weighing the odds and test running new planning before jumping headfirst.
Fahim Vora
Fahim, along with his friend Tauseef, founded "Be The Local" tours in March 2010 with the vision of offering tourists a unique experience of "the other half of the city". Born and brought up in Dharavi, Fahim turned his life around with one business idea and is even today, pursuing a graduation in commerce.
Harish Iyer
Harish is a homosexual who is one of the most vocal voices for the LGBT campaign worldwide. He is listed at #71 in the World Pride Powerlist 2013. He made a compelling case for equal rights for homosexuals and heterosexuals, reiterating the fact that homosexuality is not a disease. It can neither be ‘cured’ nor ‘transmitted’. It is a state of being as much as heterosexuality and deserves not only tolerance but acceptance.
Javin Bhinde
An alumnus of NMIMS, Javin is the founder of SynCore Consulting Group, a firm which works with companies to achieve Business Excellence – through a re-evaluation of the company’s processes, systems and people models. He spoke about the vitality of adapting to changing times and trends. Only 70 of the Fortune 500 companies in the 1995 list feature in the 2014 list. He stressed on the importance of remaining essential and beating competition of all kinds, in all forms, by staying alert and being prepared for all eventualities. And perceiving and being flexible and adaptable to emerging trends.
There were also two videos of TED talks that were shown to the audience which spoke about the constancy of change and the need to identify and adapt to this change. The audience consisted of outsiders as well as students and per feedback, the session was enjoyable and interesting for all.
Namrata Purohit
Namrata started her career at 16 and was one of the ‘Youngest Trained Stott Pilates Instructor' in the world. She started her own studio in Khar, which has now branched out to south Mumbai. At just 21, Namrata caters to some of the best known faces of fashion, film and sports industries. Her journey with pilates began after an injury sustained horse riding which left her with one leg shorter than the other. The doctor had given up hope for complete use of the affected leg. Her personal effort and determination not only gave her strength but also opened her up to a whole new world of pilates of which she is now one of the reigning queens.
Srijan Singh
Srijan has worked with Dr Abdul Kalam on various assignments such as What Can I Give Movement and Energy Independence for the nation and co-authored ‘Target 3 Billion’ with Dr. Kalam. He spoke about an idea propagated in the book – PURA, Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas. It is a major national program by the Government of India in association with many Indian corporates in a Private-Public-Partnership Model, for the upliftment of the rural population of the country.
