In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alireza Mirbagheri

Bio Engineer

Received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2012. Then, he joined the Research Centre for Biomedical Technologies and Robotics (RCBTR) at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, where he is the deputy of research affairs and director of the Medical Robotics Lab. In 2013 he joined the Physics and Biomedical Engineering Department at the School of Medicine of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, as an assistant professor. His research is focused on Medical Education in Virtual Reality environment and also design and implementation of Medical Devices especially tele-robotic surgical systems and haptic surgical instruments.

Amir Masoud Sodagar

Bio Engineer

He received his PhD degree from Iran University of Science & Technology in 2000 and his post-Doc. From University of Michigan in 2002. He is assistant professor of Electronics and Biomedical Engr. Departments in K.N Toosi University and he is director of Research Lab. for Integrated Circuits & Systems(ICAS) and Senior Member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). His research field is Integrated Microsystems, Biomedical Implants, Analog, Digital, and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits and Brain-Machine Interfaces.

Hossein Baharvand

Stem Cell Scientist

Born in 1972, he received his Ph.D. degree from Khwarizmi University (formerly Tarbiat Moallem University) in 2004 in the field of cell developmental biology. He became professor of Stem Cells and Developmental Biology in 2012 at Royan institute. He is the director of Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology from 2002-now. He is the winner of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-Equatorial Guinea international prize (2014) for research in life sciences due to improving the quality of human life with his stem cell research, to numerous applications in regenerative medicine.

Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi

Surgeon + Veteran

Born in 1958, he received his course of Specialty in “General Surgery” from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 1993 and his fellowship in “Trauma & Vascular Surgery” from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 1989. He is full professor of surgery in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He has done extensive research in the field of chemical treatment of the Iran-Iraq war.

Morteza Eslami Dehkordi

Environmental Activist

Morteza Eslami Dehkardi was born in February 1983 in Shahre-Kord. As a child he was interested in fauna and nature and started working voluntarily in the Darabad Nature and Wildlife Museum. Mr. Dehkardi along with two friends founded the Iranian Cheetah Society in 1999. He became the youngest member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature scientific committee. Starting his academic career in the field of Chemical and Industrial engineering he later changed his field to Environmental Engineering and continued by getting his masters in Biological Diversity.

Pouran Derakhshandeh

Director + Producer

Born in 1951 in Kermanshah, is an Iranian film director, producer, screen writer, and researcher. She graduated in film directing in 1975 from Advanced School of Television and Cinema in Tehran. She started her professional career by making documentary films for IRIB. She is a member of WIF - Women in Film, IFP - Independent Feature Project and CIFEJ - Centre international du film pour I'enfance et la jeunesse. (International Centre of Films for Children and Young People).

Shervin Vakili

Mythologist

Born in 1974, and raised in an intellectual family. He Received his MS in Physiology and his PhD degree in Sociology from Allameh Tabatabaei University; Lecturer, University of Tehran. His thesis was known as the Iranian’s best research of the year 2004 in the realm of humanities by the National Administration of Culture and Science. He started a non-formal sciencephilosophy circle called the club of knowledge, in 1992, which was continued for 4 years, and then ended up in a cluster of cultural groups. These groups united again in the year 2000, to become Kanoon Khorshid (the Center of the Sun) NGO.
