TEDxIITKanpur is a local, independently organized event at IIT Kanpur that strives to recreate the unique experience found at TED, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers congregate to share what they are most passionate about. We aim to provide a platform where the smartest thinkers, greatest visionaries, and most fascinating teachers will be inspired and will have the opportunity to inspire others.

Abhijeet Avasthi

Abhijit Avasthi is the former National Creative Director of Ogilvy and Mather, India. He has completed his studies in 1993 from Banaras Hindu University. From 1993 to 1997, in his words, he "almost did everything", from working in a steel plant, to preparing dyes for textile design for his father, and even trading in saris. Avasthi was made creative director in 2002; and in 2005, he was designated group creative director. As group creative director, he worked on brands like Perfetti, Cadbury, Asian Paints, Bajaj, Motorola, Coca Cola (Sprite and Limca) and Yahoo. Be there to find out how an aspiring pilot landed up in studying Metallurgy or may be selling saris for his living and also to figure out how he stepped the ladders to become a nation worth remembering in the history of Indian advertising sector!

An IIT Madras alumnus, Amit Deshwal quit his job at the World Bank to understand the meaning of education and start a learning space for children that is different from the formal system. His travels through the country made him realize that although people learn quite a lot about the world around them themselves, but most have internalized the fact that learning happens only in schools and colleges

Dipendra Manocha

Blind since childhood, Dipendra Manocha has used technology to build a communications and training infrastructure that enables the disabled to put their abilities to work alongside other citizens in mainstream society. He is harnessing the power of technology to improve the self-image of the disabled and the society’s perception of them. Dipendra Manocha works as the developing countries coordinator and Lead of Training and Tech Support with the DAISY Consortium.

Founder of Samman and an internationally acclaimed entrepreneur, Irfan Alam describes himself as ‘a simple human being but a big dreamer'. At a Presidential Summit in 2011 his ideas impressed President Obama, who complimented him with the words "You are doing a tougher job than me"
