In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amy Liang

Student at SUNY Geneseo
Amy Liang is a senior Psychology major and Anthropology minor at SUNY Geneseo. As a sophomore, she traveled to Borgne, Haiti, and documented her experience through photography. Some of her photos have been featured on HaitiHub, a site for Creole learning, and have won awards. Following her study abroad experience, Amy joined the Community Health Alliance as their International Projects Coordinator and has worked with them ever since. She has also co-founded the Art Club and Photography Club as a means of preserving art on Geneseo’s campus.

Bart Fuchs

High school student
Bart Fuchs is a 17 year old senior at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, New York. He is a singer/songwriter who plays guitar and ukulele and is also a student advocate and spokesperson for The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), having organized projects/events around NASSAU County and Queens to raise awareness of stigma and fundraise for research and suicide prevention programs. Bart plans to study at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) starting this September to pursue a college education in songwriting and philosophy.

Denise Reed Lamoreaux

Denise Reed Lamoreaux is an award-winning player in the custom training industry, having designed programs focused on career development and professional communications for over 75,000 employees in 60 countries. Her career includes learning solution development, Human Resources transition & transformation, mentoring and coaching of executive clients, contract negotiations and client consulting. She is the recipient of multiple awards acknowledging her contributions to the field of learning and development. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Geneseo Alumni Association.

Glenn McClure

Professor of Choral Arranging at the Eastman School of Music and Professor of Humanities at SUNY Geneseo
Glenn McClure holds a BA in History and Music Theory/History and an MA in Multicultural Education. He currently serves on the faculties of the Eastman School of Music/University of Rochester, teaching Choral Arranging, and SUNY Geneseo, where he teaches Western Humanities and American Folk Guitar and regularly leads students on study abroad programs. When he is not teaching, he works as a composer. His music has been featured on national broadcasts such as NPR’s All Things Considered. His most recent work was written for the European Space Agency’s Rosetta Mission.

Jennifer Gonyea

Therapist and Professor at the University of Georgia
Jennifer Gonyea received her Masters in Mental Health Counseling at SUNY Plattsburgh and her doctorate in Child and Family Development with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Georgia. She is currently a full-time faculty member at the University of Georgia but maintains an active clinical practice. Gonyea has held many offices in the Georgia Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, most recently as President. In her spare time, she authors instructional materials, develops online curricula, and serves as an Online Learning Fellow and Writing Fellow.

Kris Dreessen

Editor of the SUNY Geneseo alumni magazine and a freelance photographer and writer
Kris Dreessen, editor of the Geneseo alumni magazine and a freelance photographer and writer, gave up most her belongings in 2014 to travel the world. She started by living with Nicaraguan farmers in El Sauce and has collaborated with linguists working with under-studied languages. She has been an outdoors and feature reporter, editor and photographer for newspapers and has visited 35 countries. In 2006, she created The Friends Project, which funds small improvement projects in developing communities.

Linda Ware

Professor of Education at SUNY Geneseo
Dr. Linda Ware teaches Disability Studies at SUNY Geneseo. She has published widely in leading journals including Hypatia, A Journal of Feminist Philosophy, National Women’s Studies Journal and Cultural Disability Studies Quarterly, and Equity and Excellence. She has authored numerous book chapters and an edited book, Ideology and the Politics of InExclusion (2004, Peter Lang). She is completing a second international collection, Critical Readings in Interdisciplinary Disability, and her series on the history of critical special education context is under contract with SENSE Publishers.

Matthew McClure

Student at SUNY Geneseo
Matt McClure is a senior Comparative Literature and French major at SUNY Geneseo in the Edgar Fellows Honors program. Throughout his undergraduate career, he has been the recipient of the 2014 Gérard Gouvernet Geneseo Student Ambassadorship, a Gilman International Scholarship, a Killam Fellowship and has the Clinton Global Initiative University conference. In Borgne, Haiti, he has helped develop resources for Geneseo’s service learning program and Borgne’s first library. Matt is a Study Abroad Mentor, is involved in the SUNY Geneseo swing dance club, and is the organizer of several language immersion groups on campus.
