TEDxTucson will present an evening Salon called “Intersections” on October 30, 2015. We think of a Salon as a dinner party for the mind. We will be exploring the intersection between First Nation traditions, culture, and values, and modern life.

Aaron White

Flautist and Award Winning flute maker

Award winning Artist/Singer/Songwriter, Grammy nominated musician Aaron White has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years. His mix of Native American Flute, Acoustic Guitar with World Music overtones awaken the inner soul of those who hear his music. Blending the sounds from the two worlds from which influence his music in the Traditional way of Native America along with modern music, their is always something fresh and new with the music Aaron White creates.

Aleena Hernandez

Public Health

Aleena has more than 20 years of experience working with indigenous communities in the U.S., and more recently in the Pacific Islands and New Zealand. Much of her work has focused on strengthening partnerships to advance shared goals in the areas of public health capacity, tribally-driven and participatory research practices, community health assessment, and improvement planning. She is a strong advocate for indigenous self-determination and healthy communities. Aleena holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Arizona, College of Public Health, where she is an adjunct lecturer. She was awarded Alumnus of the Year in 2006.

Terrell Dew Johnson

Advocate for eating Indigenous Foods

Terrol Johnson is a community leader, nationally recognized advocate for Native communities and renowned artist. In 1996, Terrol co-founded Tohono O’odham Community Action (TOCA), a grassroots community organization dedicated to creating positive programs based in the O’odham Himdag – the Desert People’s Way. In 2002, Terrol and TOCA Co-Director Tristan Reader were recognized as one of the nation’s top leadership teams when they received the Ford Foundation’s Leadership for a Changing World Award.
