Deepu Sebastian Edmond

Jouranalist
Mr. Deepu Sebastian Edmond, a common man with simple ideas, who emphasizes that everyone is entitled to their sexual preference and the privilege to enjoy the freedom to love. In the movie 'Aligarh', he has shown his displeasure, defying the labels and categorization of everything and everyone, after all every boundary we define ourselves in is a creation of our own minds. Edmond, who hails from Kollam, Kerala, holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Chennai’s Loyola College and a post­graduate degree in journalism from the Asian College of Journalism. After receiving the Asian Journalism Fellowship, 2015 he has worked with the Indian Express from 2009­2015 in Delhi. On January 2016, he joined "The Hindu" as the Special Correspondent.

Dr. Nayna Patel

Medical Director of Akanksha Infertility and IVF clinic
Dr. Nayna Patel passed her MBBS and MD with five gold medals. She has attended the scientific programme and IVF workshops at National university, Singapore in 1996, and has been to IVF centers in USA, South Korea, UK etc. She has received extensive training for all these techniques.She, now helps families remove the stigma of stillbirths inheriting her mother's zeal for social work and her barrister father's courage.Through her brainchild, Akanksha Infertility Clinic she has helped the families live the deeply held desire to become a parent. Akansha Infertility recently reached the milestone of producing 1000th surrogate baby. She has been called upon the Oprah Winfrey Show, which fueled her idea and bore fruits.

Dr. Uddhab Bharali

Innovator
A serial innovator, has about 118 innovations to his credit, starting from the late 1980. Academically being a child prodigy and graduating school at the age of 14, it was ironic of fate when he had to drop out of college and the poverty faced out then his first innovation, a non-conventional polythene making machine. Since then there has been no looking back for him; the list of innovations kept on increasing. His talent and innovations had been brought to the public knowledge for the very first time in 1995, when famous story-writer, novelist, river engineer and eco-technocrat Arnab Jan Deka wrote an extensive article about him and his innovations with illustrative photographs in the oldest and most prestigious Assamese daily newspaper in Assam, India, Dainik Assam in its Sunday issue dated 7 May 1995. Within a few months, Arnab Jan Deka wrote the first ever English article on Uddhab Bharali in another English daily The Assam Express.

Mr. Jayabrata Bhaduri

Entrepreneur
Mr. Jayabrata Bhaduri, the man fostering his brilliant idea to cover every possible space with greenery and reducing the maintenance trouble at the same time.A two by two feet tile, which is leak proof, designed in the US by an Indian, tested in Switzerland by Mr. Jayabrata Bhaduri, who graduated from Jadavpur University in Mechanical Engineering and went on to complete a management programme from SP Jain, calls himself a typical Bengali profile. “I studied the right things and went on to work for multinationals,” says Jayabrata, indicating that there was nothing he could complain about how his life had turned out. Yet, he left its comforts and jumped into entrepreneurship.

Padmini Rout

Chess player
Born in a remote district of Baramba Garh in Odisha, Padmini rout has been a prominent figure in the field of chess. She is an ace chess player from Odisha. She evinced her interest in the field of chess at a very young age. She has won several accolades in chess. Her first title was at the age of twelve. After winning U-14 girls championship in 2008 she was conferred the title of ‘International Master’ and Grandmaster. She won the Indian Chess Championship twice and she also has four national and five international trophies in her closet. It was in 2009 after her spectacular performance in a chess championship that she was conferred the Eklavya award by the Odisha Government. Padmini Rout is an epitome of arduous work. She believes that anything can be achieved if one strives for it. It was her hard work and constant dedication that won several laurels for her. She exemplifies the adage that a “Child is a father of a man.”

Shubhranshu Choudhary

Journalist
Shubhranshu Choudhary is a Knight International Journalism Fellow working on a project training citizen journalists in rural India. The project recently won an Billionth Award for mobile phone development that helps underserved communities in South Asia. Choudhary was a BBC South Asia producer for more than 10 years. He also has served as a media trainer for the BBC World Service Trust, the United Nations and Indian universities. He produced the first television coverage of foreign militants operating in Indian Kashmir and conducted the first television interview with the chief commander of the Kashmiri militant organization. He was a TV and radio producer for the BBC’s South Asia bureau for eight years, and a reporter for The Guardian’s South Asia bureau for two years. He was a reporter for five years at the Hindi-language Daily Deshbandhu.
