After the tremendous success of our two Salons in Term 1, TEDxWarwick are proud to present our Student Salon: Generation Z.

For the first time ever, we have selected some of Warwick's very own brightest minds to deliver talks on exciting new ideas that challenge norms and defy expectations. The future truly is at Warwick.

Join us in MS.01 for our final FREE event before our main conference! This is a truly unique opportunity to see the best of what your fellow students have to offer. There will also be a surprise performance - you won't want to miss out!

OUR SPEAKERS:

1) James da Costa - "How Your Old Brick Phone is Changing Millions of Lives Worldwide" - James, a social entrepreneur working to develop the world’s first App Store for the 'bottom billion', explores the power of mobile phones in the developing world.

2) Manan Metha - "If You Needed 100 Reasons to be Happy, Money Could Buy 70 of Them" - Manan speaks about the fields of happiness and economics and their implications in our lives. He will explain how experiential learning is a constant source of happiness and discuss herd behaviour, which he will argue, is driven by social media.

3) Stavros Antonopolous - "Words Apart: The Economic Signifcance of Fairy Tales" - Stavros explains how parenting choices are responsible for student achievement and structural economic inequalities. He has competed in over 25 national and international debating competitions and MUN conferences.

4) Ashley Mungai - "You're More than Enough as You Are" - At the age of 16 Ashley founded the Hands and Feet Organisation, empowering young girls to stand up to oppression and FGM. Ashley will remind us that no one is ever too young to instigate change and encourage us to empower those without a voice.

Ashley Mungai

Having witnessed the oppression of young girls in poverty stricken sub-saharan Africa Ashley embarked on an inspiring journey to empower these women whilst developing sustainable ways to educate them and instigate cultural change within their communities. Through her talk, she aims to remind us that no one is ever too young to instigate change and to encourage us to empower those without a voice. Ashley has given many talks across Kenya and the UK raising awareness to the plight of both marginalised western and sub-Saharan women. At 16 she founded the Hands and Feet Organisation that operates in Northern Kenya, sheltering, training and empowering young girls to stand up and become women that can say no to oppression and escape FGM.

James da Costa

James explores the power of mobile phones in the developing world drawing from his own experience as a social entrepreneur working in India and Kenya. James is a Co-Founder of Mandala Group, a social enterprise working in the Mobile for Development Space. Mandala Group designs, develops and implements ‘impact applications’ globally and aims to build the world’s first impact App Store for the bottom billion, giving those in poverty the tools they need to raise themselves out of poverty.

Manan Mehta

Manan has a variety of interests ranging from speaking in various public platforms to long distance running. According to him, fundraising for Childreach International in order to trek the Amazon rainforests in Brazil, is the most fruitful experience he's taking back from Warwick. His ambition is to dedicate himself to the cause of economic equality in India. His talk will focus on the fields of happiness and economics and their implications in our lives.
