Blythe Eickerman is a senior at University Prep. She is an avid athlete and musician, among many other things. Diagnosed with OCD at a young age, Blythe has always worked to manage her anxiety day to day without letting it get in the way of school and the things she hopes to achieve by embracing the fact that her mind functions differently.
Mahir Pirayali
Junior at University Prep
Mahir Piyarali, a junior, has attended University Prep since 6th grade and is well known for his role as co-editor for the Puma Press, UPrep’s outstanding student-run newspaper that has accumulated a stack of national awards. As the 2016 presidential election became increasingly volatile, Mahir recognized that political voices were being regularly silenced and he wrote a phenomenal op-ed in the Puma Press discussing this key idea of political inclusivity.
Michael Wasserman
English Teacher at University Prep
Michael Wasserman has been teaching for the past 14 years, first in New York City, where he attended graduate school at Columbia, and then here in Seattle, where he taught for 5 years at Auburn Senior High School and the last 4 at University Prep, currently teaching the Gothic Literature class, among others. He is a lover of all things scary and spooky, loves to run in anticipation of the zombie apocalypse, and is known to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie with peanut butter smeared on top.
Olivia Poolos
Freshman at University Prep
Olivia Poolos is a freshman at University Prep, having attended the school since sixth grade. Though always an avid athlete, Olivia had never considered the merits of a non-ball sport until she joined U Prep's cross country team. Unexpectedly, she found her new love: running.
Pat Grant
History Teacher at University Prep
Pat Grant is a history and economics teacher at U Prep, where he has taught since 1985. He was the Washington State Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 1997 and the World Educator of the Year with the World Affairs Council in 2015-2016. He has received scholarships and fellowships to study in Japan, India, Belgium, Germany and the UK.
Founder and CEO at Oiselle
In 2007, Sally Bergesen combined her long-time love for running and her drive to empower the modern woman when she founded Oiselle, an athletic apparel company by and for women athletes. Today she continues to challenge female athletes to reach their full potential as the company's CEO, providing both professional and recreational runners around the world with kits that inspire them to bring out the power within: their modern power suit.
Vivian Voth
Senior at University Prep
Vivian Voth is one of the biggest advocates of the environment you will ever meet. An avid runner on both the cross country and track teams, she loves hiking, especially when there are mountains involved. As a lover of both animals and the natural environment, several years ago she decided to adjust her lifestyle by going vegan, and she encourages anyone and everyone who enjoys the natural beauty our planet has to offer to learn more about what you can do in your life to help preserve our world for future generations.
