Spend the evening igniting your curiosity. You'll meet a diverse and select collection of inspired speakers, you’ll watch glass blowers and a flame artist, and you’ll connect with your community–Tucson’s best and brightest! Our more intimate Salon format lets you engage with speakers and mingle with other participants, so you can more deeply explore the amazing ideas that come from these talks. TEDxTucson Salons are smaller events where we explore ideas worth spreading, designed around a specific theme–this Salon is called “Breathing Fire.” We bring you together with 4 live speakers, 200 participants, and our legendary after-party!

Caleb Clinkingbeard

Teacher/Educator

Caleb Clinkingbeard actually likes Tucson. He was born at UMC and graduated twice from the University of Arizona. He has a healthy sense of wonder and frequently gets asked to speak about the intersection of science and religion to groups around Arizona. He is a good teacher, a mediocre musician, and a lousy dancer.

Fernanda Santos

Journalist

Fernanda Santos is the author of “The Fire Line: The Story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots and One of the Deadliest Days in American Firefighting” and a longtime staff writer for The New York Times. Fernanda has reported in three languages, in Latin America and the United States. She got her start in journalism in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, her home country. Prior to joining The Times, Fernanda worked for The Republican in Springfield, Mass., The Eagle-Tribune in Lawrence, Mass., The Daily News of New York and People Magazine. She is a recipient of the Kiplinger, International Reporting Project and Casey Children and Family fellowships. As a board member of the Arizona Latino Media Association, she runs a two-way mentorship program that allows veteran and novice journalists to teach one another skills they do not have or wish to perfect.

Lori DiGuardi

CEO/Organizational and Strategic Leadership

Lori DiGuardi is an all around Superhero of the Soul. As a Transformational Personal Development Coach, Speaker and Author, she excels at helping people grow into their unique and empowered potential. Over the last 25 years her work as a leader in America, Europe, and Africa has helped men, woman, and children struggle less and thrive more. Lori’s experience has repeatedly shown her that life is more fulfilling and harmonious when we as individuals are connected with our inner truth. She has a M.S. in Organizational and Strategic Leadership, a B.S. summa cum laude in Computer Science, and is an Accredited Certified Coach through International Coach Federation. In 2010 Lori had the distinct honor of being awarded Rotary’s “Service Above Self” award. Lori says, “Helping people live their greatest lives is the key to living mine.”

Morris Palter

Professor of Percussion

Born in Canada, Morris Palter’s wide-range of musical interests have found him performing throughout North America, Asia, and Europe at some of the most prominent festivals and venues including Carnegie Hall, the Royal College of Music (London, UK), the Quincena Festival (Spain), Disney Hall (Los Angeles), and IRCAM (Paris). Morris was faculty at the Roots and Rhizomes percussion program (Banff Centre for the Arts) in 2011 and has commissioned and/or premiered hundreds of new compositions, working with both notable composers and new compositional voices.
