TEDxSDSU: Countdown will begin Sunday, April 9th at 11:00am in Montezuma Hall of San Diego State University. A Countdown is the seconds and moments leading up to a pivotal point, a new idea, or a new approach to a problem. April 9th we will begin a show to explore all of the wonders a Countdown can bring.

Diana Carson

Consultant and Trainer on diversity as it relates to disability
Diana Pastora Carson, M.Ed. has been an educator for over 20 years. She is a consultant and trainer on diversity as it relates to disability and is the author of several articles and books on the topic, as well as the author of children’s books, Ed Roberts: Father of Disability Rights, and All the Muchos in the World. Her Ability Awareness work has earned her statewide PTA recognitions in the areas of advocacy and outreach, as well as her school’s designation of Teacher of the Year. She has also been featured on several radio programs, and served two terms on the Board of Directors of Disability Rights California. What Diana is most proud of is what she has learned from her brother, Joaquin, as well as her family’s relentless journey to win him a life of freedom and quality in the community.

Karyn Buxman

International speaker, successful author, and neurohumorist
Karyn Buxman is an international speaker, successful author, and neurohumorist. (A neurohumorist is one who studies the intersection of the brain and humor.) A pioneer in the emerging science of applied humor, Karyn helps leaders, and those they serve, achieve peak performance and optimum health. She is one of 181 people (and only 39 women) in the world to be inducted into the National Speakers Association's Speaker Hall of Fame. Wowing audiences with her high content and high energy—Karyn Buxman is serious about humor.

Kevin Corcoran Jr.

Trainer | Teacher | Speaker | Author
Kevin Corcoran Jr. is one of the youngest lecturers at San Diego State University and National University, and has taught classes for every Community College district in the greater San Diego area. He has been honored as a favorite faculty member and favorite teacher at SDSU and continues to rank as an award-winning professor on Rate My Professor. His professional experience includes working closely with Apple, Linux Foundation, Sony Music Entertainment, Red Bull, Coldwell Banker, UCSD Center for Community Health, and several start-ups in Southern California, just to name a few. Kevin holds a Master of Arts Degree (and B.A.) in Communication from one of the highest-ranked programs in the country at San Diego State University. When he’s not speaking, teaching, or writing, you’ll probably find him outdoors either camping, exploring, or adventuring. Either way, he’ll probably be barefoot and wearing swim trunks.

Kevin Popović is the inaugural Director of the ZIP Idea Lab, part of the Zahn Innovation Platform at San Diego State University, where he teaches Design Thinking and creative problem solving. He is also the Founder of Ideahaus®, an award-winning creative communications agency. His published books include 20YEARS Communications: 20 Leaders, 20 Questions, 100’s of Lessons and Satellite Marketing: Using Social Media to Create Engagement.

Mike Place is the CEO of Placenhope, Inc. As a business owner and entrepreneur he has researched and identified the challenges that keep people from developing to their greatest potential.
