Dr.Shailendra Rajan has contributed to mango research and development, in a research career spanning 26 years. He is credited with the development of several varieties of mango and guava. He is involved in rootstock breeding. Germplasm conservation: Maintaining the world’s largest collection of mango germplasm numbering 726.
Dr. Rajan characterized and documented more than 500 mango varieties and published a catalogue on mango and a Status Report on Genetic Resources of mango in Asia-Pacific Region. Using GIS tools, he has worked out climatic requirements of important mango varieties in India. Mapped priority areas for mango biodiversity collection and conservation and has been engaged in rejuvenation of unproductive mango orchards.

He has helped in the project development and heads the campaign’s coordination team & QRT (Quick Reaction Team) in the Reach Out mission to support 200 acid attack survivors in Uttar Pradesh.

He first came in contention during the under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004, when he took eight wickets for a very impressive average of 24.75. He later performed consistently in the Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh and impressive performances saw him earn a place in the ODI side in 2005. He followed it by snatching 34 wickets in six Ranji games for Uttar Pradesh to come into limelight.
In an era where India seemed to be forever in the search for young batsmen and bowlers, it was not hard to see RP Singh making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in September 2005. He made an immediate splash taking two wickets in his second over. It was however the tour of England later that year that he came into prominence. He managed his first 5-wicket haul at the famed Lord's and played a huge part in India winning that series after a span of 21 years. He followed it up with crucial strikes in the inaugural T20 World Cup as India romped home against all odds.
