In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Drew Flanagan

Drew, a rising Senior at Newark Academy, is passionate about the usage of technology to benefit others and incorporates it into many aspects of his life. Drew is the Co-president of Kiva club, which uses the web to give loans to people in developing countries, and also includes technology in his role as Upper Class President.

Giulia Socolof

Giulia Socolof, a rising Senior at Newark Academy, is an active member within the Arts department, working backstage in theatre productions and playing bass in the Jazz band. Giulia is a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, hockey, and running track.

Kianni Keys

Kianni Keys is a rising Senior at Newark Academy. Kianni’s passion for theatre began at a young age. She initially wanted to be an actress but switched to writing to have more influence in the creation of more diverse parts. Kianni has played an active role in Newark Academy Arts productions, including a recent 24-hour playwriting festival. She has won awards for her writing, including for the play that inspired her to give this talk.

Rayna Lifson

Mrs. Rayna Lifson served as a faculty member for six years at Newark Academy. Mrs. Lifson earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, then completed graduate work to earn a J.D. at Columbia Law School., as well as a Masters in Education from Rutgers. She practiced law for a number of years before becoming a teacher, going on to teach at Fieldston Upper School, Millburn High School, and Newark Academy.

Samarth Desu

Samarth, a rising Senior at Newark Academy, is passionate about education as well as global policy, especially in the Middle East and Latin America. Samarth participates in the Global Speaker series at school and plans to further pursue foreign affairs in college.

Zachary Burd

Zachary Burd is a Senior at Newark Academy. As one of the co-founders of the Sports Analytics Club, Zach has spent much of his time discussing and analyzing different scenarios in sports. Over the years he has developed a deep passion for a variety of sports.
