Theme: The Day After Tomorrow

The TEDxWHU conference of 2018 is titled “The Day after Tomorrow”.
Evoking the picture of complete destruction in apparent resemblance to the famous movie by Roland Emmerich, this year’s conference tries to transfer this notion on how our current world will be shaped by, for example, new emerging technologies or political instabilities. Therefore, our speakers will both discuss resulting opportunities or upcoming barriers in various sectors of our society and will lead the audience through an inspiring day full of thought-provoking TEDx Talks. Again, we aim at providing a platform for some of the most revolutionary, inspiring and creative thinkers to share their ideas.

Aimie Carstensen-Henze

Co-Founder ArtNight, Founder Blog FIELFALT

Aimie is Co-Founder of the young company ArtNight, which had been featured in the latest season of “Die Höhle der Löwen” (German version of Shark Tank). In her talk she will explain why creative experiences are facing such a huge popularity recently and how art events can positively contribute to our society. These kind of events do facilitate the social need that more and more people are encountering in times of technological enhancement. Moreover, Amie is active in the field of women empowerment. She has started and grown the blog FIELFALT which has been established as a community for women to build up a network in Germany.

Andreas Stark

Principal and Vice President North America at etventure

Andy is Principal and Vice President North America of etventure, a digital company builder. After spending some time in media, sports management and consulting, he got fascinated by tech entrepreneurship. Before founding his own startup in 2013 he worked in the Munich based company builder Venture Stars as an Entrepreneur in Residence, experiencing the ups and downs of building online businesses first hand. Today, his passion for digital innovation and entrepreneurship has led him to support the leadership of DAX and Fortune 500 companies as well as SMEs on their journey through digital transformation. He remains involved in the startup scene as an active mentor and facilitator for corporate and startup partnerships. In his private life Andy is known for his life-long passion around self development, lifestyle design and bio-hacking - striving to achieve his full potential in all areas of his life. As a life coach and blogger he wants to inspire and support others on the same journey.

Andreas Thellmann is currently working on new VTOL (vertical take off and landing) aircraft and urban air mobility at Airbus. He has always been passionate about the future of flight. He got fascinated by the fact that, one day, everyone of us would be able to fly an air vehicle instead of taking a car. In his talk, he will address both the chances and the rising demand for new ways of transportation in form of aviation as a result of urbanization and a growing world population.

WHU Alumnus, Founder Infinitiy Institute, Communications & Change Consultant, Business & Speaker Coach

Christopher is founder of the Infinity Institute, a network of coaches who support individuals and organizations in unleashing their potential. The vote for Brexit and the election of Donald Trump for president of the United States in 2016 marked a turning point in Christopher’s professional outlook as the communication strategies behind these and other political events challenged his own view of what it means to be a good speaker. How to deal with communication that is extremely successful but at the same time threatening an open society and its democratic principles? And why on the other hand is communication that embraces liberal values so challenged? In his talk he will examine what explains the rise of populism in the West in recent times, analyze how the populist narrative framework works and present effective communication strategies that can help defeat the populist authoritarians.

Architectural Pastry Chef

Dinara Kasko describes herself as an architectural pastry chef coming from the Ukraine. She is creating highly artistic, edible cakes through the use of 3D printers. In her TEDx Talk, Dinara will tell her story about how she has shifted from architecture to the baking industry resulting in a combination of both fields. Moreover, her professional career and the choices she made show that due to the emergence of new technologies people get the possibility to tap into completely new fields either in their personal life or in their work life.

Chris Boos has a mission: empowering human potential, freeing up time for creativity and innovative thinking through artificial intelligence (AI). Since then, Chris has led Arago to become a key partner and driver for the established economy. But his ambitions go far beyond: a strong believer in integrating machine reasoning and machine learning, Chris is constantly challenging current thinking on AI. As a strategic corporate and political advisor, as well as angel investor, Chris’ multifaceted engagement for AI makes him a much respected public speaker and thought-leader on issues of global importance, such as the man-machine-relationship, the way societies deal with information and the future of labor.

Hector Martinez

Co-Founder Cellink

From Mexico to the US to Sweden, Dr. Hector Martinez has left his mark around the globe. As CTO and Co-Founder of Cellink, Martinez has contributed his knowledge of tissue engineering and the 3D Bioprinting field to drive the sweden based bioprinting company Cellink to where it is today. Martinez’s dream is to translate Cellink’s core technology in engineering, bioink development, tissue engineering and 3D bioprinting to the drug development process and ultimately to the clinic – to bring better healthcare treatments to patients in need. In his talk, he will take the audience on an inspiring journey starting with the initial development of the bioprinting technology to the current state of progress. Moreover, he will explain the vast amount of future opportunities of this new technology through a live demonstration of Cellink’s bioprinter.

Martin Stuchtey

WHU Alumnus, Founder SYSTEMIQ, initiator 2030 Water Resources Group, strategic adviser World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Professor for resource strategies and management at Innsbruck University, author of "A Good Disruption - Redefining Growth in the Twenty-first Century", father of six children, organic farmer, avid alpinist

Martin, who is also an Alumnus of WHU, worked at McKinsey for 20 years, most recently as Director of the Center for Business and Environment, particularly focusing on water management, circular industrial systems and ecosystem preservation. Previously, he served as a leader of McKinsey’s Transport and Infrastructure Practice and as managing partner in McKinsey's Munich Office. He is an initiator of the 2030 Water Resources Group and a long-time strategic advisor to the World Economic Forum and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. He has a background of geology and economics, is professor at the University of Innsbruck and author of the book “A Good Disruption – Redefining Growth in the Twenty-first Century”. He is a father of six, an organic farmer and an avid alpinist. Together with Jeremy Oppenheim, he is a founder and managing partner of SYSTEMIQ. In his talk he will in particular focus on his latest results regarding a sustainable economic growth for our society.
