The first TEDxKuwaitCity is taking place on December 1, hosted at the iconic Kuwait Towers on the Arabian Gulf Road in Kuwait.
The theme for our first year is ‘huboob’ as storm of ideas emerge from a line up of speakers and interactive experiences to amaze and surprise you. We’ll share together what is possible in our challenging environment, experience our warm and giving communities, and connect with networks operating below our everyday radar.

This event is multidisciplinary, and focused on the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world.

Abdelwahab Al-Atiqi

Researcher in the field of Business Intelligence and Analytics
Abdelwahab Al-Atiqi is a Data Science Enthusiast and a researcher in the field of Business Intelligence and Analytics. He is currently a PhD Candidate at Brunel University London and is studying the acceptance of Business Intelligence/Analytics systems in an organizational setting. His research is multi-disciplinary incorporating research in Information Systems, Business and Psychology. Prior to his PhD Candidacy, he has been working in the telecommunications industry and throughout his career he has been dealing with consumer data from different perspectives.

Abdullah AlShaikh

Computer Scientist
Abdullah is a computer scientist with experience in designing, developing and maintaining systems. He has worked with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, KGOC, and is now with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Academy, focusing on online course development.

Hamad AlBarrak

Hamad Al-Barrak is the sixteen-year-old founder and organizer of SWING Kuwait, a non-profit golf club established in 2016 and centered around providing children with autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome, aged six to twelve, with training and mentorship in the sport of golf. Hamad has been playing golf for more than five years, and plays for Kuwait’s junior national golf team.

Loulwa Al-Tarkeet

Loulwah Al-Tarkeet has spent 16 years handling Public Relations, Communication, and Media in the corporate, NGO, and UN Humanitarian organizations field. For the past 3 years Loulwah has been leading the External Relations unit at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Office to the State of Kuwait, where she lead several projects on Advocacy, Fund raising, and Media campaigning on both the government and the private sector scale, with many breakthroughs in both partnerships and outreach locally.

Mohammad Y. Al-Bahar

Founder Diabetes Ambassadors Program
Mohammad Y. Al-Bahar was born in Kuwait, in 1983. Mohammad was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 2 years old, and everything has changed since then. He has pursued training in the field of diabetes under the Young Leaders in Diabetes program which is part of the International Diabetes Federation, as well as the NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases). He is the founder of Diabetes Ambassadors Program, which focuses on advocacy, education as well as insulin access and the rights of people living with diabetes. He is a Trustee of the League Of DiAthletes as well as T1International Global Advocate. Mohammad is concerned with discrimination towards people living with diabetes, the missing link of patients in the healthcare system.

Saad Al Barrak

Executive Chairman, ILA Group
Dr. Saad Al Barrak is an engineer and businessman. Since his appointment in 2002 and under his tutelage, Zain’s (formerly MTC) customer base has increased from 600,000 in Kuwait to a conglomerate of 22 operations with over 63.54 million active customers across the Middle East and Africa. Dr. Al Barrak was Vice-Chairman of the Social Development Office (SDO) of the Amiri Diwan in Kuwait; Chairman of Egyptian software developer ITSoft; Chairman of Arab Telecom; and a non-executive Director of Arab Management Association in Cairo. He is currently an Advisory Board Member of the UNDP in Kuwait as well as a member of the International University of Africa, Khartoum. Since 2012, he is the Chairman, Beyond Limits, a joint venture with Caltech, Pasadena (USA) and a Board member of Red Lambda, a cyber security software tech company, Orlando (USA). In 2018, he became the Vice-Chairman of the National Fund (SME: For Small & Medium Enterprise Development), a State of Kuwait organization.

Youmna Tanon

Student, Future Coder
Youmna is a member of The Future Coders Club, she started as a student coder and was one of the first coders to reach “Coding Level 4”, a coding level that is the first step in to the world of Artificial Intelligence programming. With her cheerful attitude toward teaching and her ability to communicate with other coders, she volunteers as a Junior Tutor and is starting to teach other coders what she learned.
