In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Clare Ferguson-Walker

Performance Poet

Clare Ferguson-Walker is a multi award-winning poet and comedienne,who currently tours the UK with legendary performer John Cooper Clarke. In addition, she can also be found headlining at literature festivals and spoken word evenings across the country as well as in theatres with her own 5-star show "California Scheming". Described by Phill Jupitus as "Absurdly Talented" and praised by John Cooper Clarke, Clare is also an internationally acclaimed sculptor.

Deborah Morgan

Ageing and Dementia Researcher

Dr Deborah Morgan is a researcher working in the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR) and the Centre for Innovative Ageing (CIA) at Swansea University. Deborah’s area of expertise is loneliness and social isolation in later life, the focus of her PhD. Her other research interests include health and health inequalities, the subjective experience of chronic illness and disability in later life, alcohol and substance misuse in older adults and life course perspectives. Deborah is thematic lead for the Future of Ageing Research Group.

Eleri Angharad

Eleri Angharad is a Country/Pop artist from Swansea, blending the Welsh folk music she grew up with and the intricate storytelling of American Country songs. Eleri combines inspirations of Welsh songstress Cerys Matthews with US artists Emmylou Harris, James Taylor and Taylor Swift.

Mark Hendy is a Human Resources Professional from South Wales who has worked in various sectors across some of the UK’s biggest businesses, operating both nationally and internationally. Mark is a self-confessed HR geek, who loves talking about everything related to the workplace and employment, including legislation, practice, technology, leadership, and what the future workplace will look like. Mark is Chair of the South Wales HR Forum and is a fellow of both the RSA and CEBMa as well as a Chartered Member of the CIPD.

Mike Phillips

Professor Mike Phillips is Director of Research at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Mike enjoys an international research profile which has resulted in his participation in interdisciplinary research projects, advisory boards, government consultancies, and international and national policy-making. Mike is a member of Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES), Royal Geographical Society (RGS), Coastal Education and Research Foundation (CERF), Coastal Zone Canada Association (CZCA) and the European Union of Coastal Conservation (EUCC).

Sarah Beard

Sarah Beard is the Business Development Director and executive member at Maggie’s, a fast-growing charitable organisation that provides emotional, practical and social support to anyone with cancer, and their family and friends. Sarah is a Clore Social Leadership Fellow 2015. Previously, she was Assistant Divisional Manager for Cancer and Tertiary at Swansea NHS Trust (now known as Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board), and prior to that managed the South West Wales Cancer Centre, also at Swansea NHS Trust.

Simon Parton

Musician and Music Teacher

Simon Parton is an aspiring musician and music teacher, and has a passion for making music accessible to all, regardless of background, ability, age or situation. Simon regularly runs workshops, teaches guitar, ukulele, bass & production, and gives talks in schools, colleges and universities on music, community music & making music accessible. In between Simon finds time to both write and produce music for himself as well as other artists. Simon coordinates Swansea Fringe Festival and Swansea Music Hub - all contributing towards making music more accessible to all.
