In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arjun Mayur

Arjun Mayur is normally seen with a smile on his face, laughing way too loudly with his friends in the hall, or being scolded for talking too much in class. However, underneath that jubilant facade, he struggled with self-confidence, confrontation, and he doubted his abilities for as long as he could remember. It wasn’t until he took a trip halfway across the world where that view of himself completely changed.

Christian Brady

Christian Brady teaches Latin at York. He produced a podcast series on the crossroads between pop culture and the classical world called 'Prometheus Unbound'. He retired from the adult spelling bee circuit in 2014. In 2017 and 2018, he participated in national competition for League of Legends's City League on the San Francisco Ionics, where he mained Fiddlesticks mid and ganked many noobs. His team came in dead last of all 16 teams last year.

Chuck Harmon

For Chuck Harmon, teaching has been a vocation, a calling to a life in schools, a healthy exchange of ideas, and a commitment to supporting every student as an individual. For almost 40 years Chuck has worked in independent schools as a coach, advisor, department chair, college counselor, academic dean, associate head, and Head of School, but always as a teacher. He has taught English to Yale freshmen and Spanish in a Montessori kindergarten, and he’s also been an instructor of yoga, skiing, and aerobics. The longest serving Head in York’s history, Chuck Harmon has dedicated 17 years to honoring York’s excellence and great traditions while engaging York’s entire community in meaningful opportunities for positive change in the global 21st century.

Effie Antigone

Effie graduated from York in 2007, after spending the majority of her time making jokes and distracting her teachers from the lesson plans. She went on to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and minored in Psychology at the University of Southern California. On a good day, you can find her pitching ideas for the television shows she works on, writing her own scripts, and doing stand-up comedy at the Laugh Factory and other comedy clubs in Hollywood. On a bad day, you can find her on the floor of her kitchen, laugh-crying about bills, adulthood, and anxiety. Honesty keeps her humble. She currently works on the CW show “In the Dark,” and recently wrapped Ben Stiller’s “Escape at Dannemora,” premiering on Showtime in November. The secret to the highs and lows of life? Everything is just another story to tell.

Francesco Carriglio

Throughout his life, Francesco Carriglio has always managed to overcome many problems in his life. However, he was never too sure about being himself. For eight years, the problem of bullying tormented his spirit. It wasn’t until his sophomore year when he finally discovered the solution to an issue that dragged on for too long. Francesco is here today to spread his story, and to ensure everyone to love themselves and to never let your head down.

Josefina Camacho

Josefina has always had trouble relating to characters on TV. Ever since she was a little girl, she always longed for someone to look up to and see herself in. It wasn't until she grew up that she became proactive and found the representation she desired. Today, she is here to talk about the lack of representation of diversity in the mainstream media, and why it may be a more important issue than most people realize.

Max Rosenblum

Max Rosenblum (A.K.A. M.A.X.E.R. MUSIC) has found success as a DJ for gym classes, school dances, private parties and public events in the Monterey Peninsula. He has worked with and performed in venues such as Wave Street Studios, CycleBar, Carmel Valley Ranch, Laguna Seca Golf Club, and various local schools. He appreciates all kinds of music but in particular likes the uplifting vibe of electronic dance music. Although Max does not express his love for music with instruments, he believes in the power of music to unite, excite and inspire his audiences.

Sophia Sanico

From the moment Sophia Sanico stepped onto the York Campus, she became known as “the girl who played water polo.” If she wasn’t in classes, orchestra, club meetings, or hanging out with friends, she could be seen running with her backpack, volleyball bag, and water polo bag in between volleyball and water polo practices. What people did not notice was the underlying pressure to maintain her reputation as an athlete, and the fear of disappointing when she did not meet the expectations of her family and friends.
