The foundation stones of the future are being laid.

Tomorrow’s scientific breakthroughs, politics, business, culture and society are being built today, by forward thinking individuals the world over.

For the 11th year running, TEDxWarwick casts its eyes forward to the future that we are in the midst of creating - for better or worse. In a day filled with talks, performances, breakout sessions and more, we aim to find and celebrate the ideas of 14 fantastic people who are changing today’s landscape to carve out our shared future - the Architects of Tomorrow.

Join us as we’ll be revealing the speakers of the largest student-run TEDx conference in Europe over the coming weeks. Past speakers include: writer and political activist, Noam Chomsky; Planet Earth 2 producer, Ed Charles; Cameroon’s first female presidential candidate, Kah Walla, and many more.

From successful entrepreneurship and the latest developments in medicine, clean energy and artificial intelligence, to stories of personal struggle and achievement, our 2019 edition aims to go above and beyond to showcase the ideas that are beginning to shape the course of our next steps.

Casper Slots

Casper Slots is the co-founder and CEO of Particle3D, a medical technology start-up founded in 2017. Particle3D’s vision is to give surgeons back the power to develop personalised implants instead of using off-the-shelf products. P3D’s core technologies revolve around 3D-printable bio-inks composed of beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP).

Christopher Newman

Dr. Christopher J. Newman is currently working as a Professor of Space Law and Policy at Northumbria University. He is active in the teaching and research of space law and has published extensively on the legal and ethical underpinnings of space governance. He is a member of the International Institute of Space Law and of the British Interplanetary Society, having contributed to their celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Outer Space Treaty. Christopher will be speaking on the ethics, economics and legal implications of space mining.

Enass Abo-Hamed

Enass is the co-founder and CEO at H2GO Power Ltd, an award-winning spin-out company from the University of Cambridge developing energy storage technologies. She completed her PhD at University of Cambridge, where she also was a postdoctoral fellow and elected Cambridge University Energy Champion. Enass has 10 years of research and business experience in hydrogen production, nanotechnology, catalysis, renewable energy and energy storage. Currently she is also a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow and a technology expert consultant to European Commission (REA).

Gregory Klumov

Gregory Klumov is the CEO and founder of stasis.net, the first platform that legally tokenizes fiat currencies and transforms them into digital versions on a blockchain. Gregory started his career at the age of 15 as an entrepreneur when he founded a high-speed Internet Service Provider. He has over 15 years of experience in alternative investment management, having traded and allocated institutional capital as a portfolio manager and an investment director.

Hannah Anderson

Hannah is the Director of Social and Creative at Media Chain, part of Social Chain, one of the world’s most influential social media publishing houses. The communities she has created have now grown to 75 million followers, their engagement ratios making them the most engaged social media portfolio in the world. Today Media Chain control over 100 channels across major consumer passion points including sport, fitness, food and lifestyle. Hannah oversees a team of fifty who are focused on growing new media platforms. Hannah has been listed in Vogue's 25 most influential women in Britain.

James Furzer

Award-winning architect, James Furzer, is best known for his design projects which intend to provide shelter to the homeless. His project ‘Homes for the Homeless’ develops a modular homeless shelter that would hang off the sides of existing buildings. James has worked to create a name for himself and his work within the industry of architecture. In recent years, he has become a frequent guest writer in Grand Designs Magazine and has made live appearances on the news, addressing his efforts towards combating homelessness through architectural design. Due to his success, in 2015 and more recent years, James was a member of the Judging panel for the International 'WAN Awards, (World Architectural News), for the Small Spaces Category.

Jennifer Fox

Jennifer is an internationally acclaimed producer, director, writer and camerawoman. Fox recently completed her first fiction feature as director and producer of Emmy–nominated film The Tale - working with with an outstanding all-star cast, including Laura Dern and Ellen Burstyn. The film is based on her own experience with child sexual abuse and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim, with IndieWire calling it, “an immense, brave, and genuinely earth-shaking self-portrait”.

Julia Barbosa

Julia Barbosa is a Warwick alumnus, graduating with an LLM in International Development Law and Human Rights in 2008-9.

Julia King

Julia is a research fellow at LSE Cities and a design practitioner. She teaches and works on sanitation and housing in the context of rapid urbanisation. She has previously worked towards sanitation and housing improvements for marginalized communities in Delhi and has also focused on this area in the UK. She aims to place these infrastructures at the forefront of the fight against inequality and the drive for social justice. She has won numerous awards for her work including Emerging Woman Architect of the Year.

Mads Faurholt-Jorgensen

Mads is the definition of a serial entrepreneur, having founded over 20 companies at the mere age of 34. His businesses span a range of industries, including finance, conferences and education as well as the food industry. Mads has worked with high-profile investors like Goldman Sachs, Alibaba and the World Bank and is Managing Partner at his company Nova Founders Capital.

Olaf Otto

Olaf is the COO for Siemens’ eAircraft unit, which is dedicated to designing and building hybrid-electric propulsion systems for aviation. Armed with a degree in Engineering from University of Cambridge, he can look back on a long industrial career with stations in project and business management as well as strategy. Since 2016 he has been driving the programs and business development for eAircraft, which has been at the forefront of the future of flight.

Poppy Gustafsson

Poppy is a co-founder of Darktrace, the world’s leading artificial intelligence company for cyber defence, which under her leadership has reached a $1.65 billion ‘unicorn’ valuation in under five years, as well as being named Europe’s “Fastest Growing Super Scale-up” by Tech Tour. Poppy is also a qualified chartered accountant and previously served as the company’s CFO. She has prior experience in financial controller positions in the technology and venture capital sectors and was named City A.M.’s Entrepreneur of the Year 2017.

Roger Sutcliffe

Roger was one of the founder members of SAPERE, the leading UK charity for promoting Philosophy for Children (P4C), and was Chair from 1996 until 2003. In the same year he was elected President of ICPIC, the international equivalent of SAPERE. Roger’s specialist areas are Philosophical / Dialogical Teaching, Inquiry-led Learning, Critical Thinking, Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning, Values Education and Philosophy for Global Citizenship. He is about to publish Thinking Moves A – Z, a comprehensive scheme for the teaching of thinking.

Shane Holland

Shane is the Executive Chairman of Slow Food International in the UK. He has held CEO positions within both the business and charity sectors and has chaired a number of large NFPs. Within the third sector, his work has focussed on our most vulnerable citizens, their issues of food poverty & food skills, education, offending, and access to service. His other current roles include chairing Eat Club, an organisation that teaches food skills to young people and sitting as a trustee of the charity United St Saviours, which gives grants to community groups and other charities in excess of £1 million a year. A food writer – specialist subject, cheese – he also frequently sits on expert panels, appears both in print and on the radio, lectures at universities, and carries out dozens of speaking engagements a year.
