TEDxUTM 2019 serves as a platform to transmit great ideas and thoughts with one another. The resonance of thoughts triggered by the talks from the speakers directly ignites new conceptualizations in the participants. It’s a day which fills the mind with intellectual flow, where bite size food for thought can be savored and inspiring people meet for a good reason.

Assoc. Prof Ramesh Zaidi Rozan

Associate Professor

Ramesh Zaidi has worked in more than five organizations prior to UTM, where he held various positions from academic and non-academic either in Private and Government based organizations. He has also been involved in business venture as entrepreneur since 1993 till present. He has B.Sc. (Physics). Computer. Ed and M.Sc. (IT) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), MALAYSIA and received D. Eng. in Information Science & Control Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology, JAPAN in 2007. Ramesh Zaidi is an Associate Professor in Information Systems, in the Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), where he was formally a senior academia from the Faculty of Computing for more than 15 years. Currently, he is the Director of the UTM Centre for Student Innovation & Technology Entrepreneurship (UTM XCITE). Since 2015, he has achieved entrepreneurship & innovation funding of more than RM1.2 Million.

Dr Vanlal Thanzami

Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Monash Malaysia

Dr Vanlal Thanzami is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Monash University Malaysia. Since obtaining her PhD in Psychology from the University of Central Lancashire (U.K) her career in academia and research, first at the University of Central Lancashire followed by Monash University Malaysia, has spanned nearly 2 decades. Her research focuses on interpersonal violence, honor-based violence, cyberbullying, social media usage and psychological wellbeing, personality and evolutionary psychology. She has published in reputable international peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. Her teaching expertise is within the areas of social, cross-cultural and forensic psychology and she continuously strives to educate and inspire her students through research-informed teaching. She is a member of the Honor Abuse Research Matrix (HARM) and the International Society for Research on Aggression (ISRA), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (U.K).

Ir. Ammar Mohd Rashid

Managing Director of AMR Environmental Sdn Bhd

Ir. Ammar Mohd Rashid is the CEO of AMR Group, a group of companies catering different fields such as environmental, education and fashion. He is the Managing Director of AMR Environmental Sdn Bhd, CEO of AMR Eduhub Sdn Bhd, Director of AMR-AZ (Brunei) Sdn Bhd and co-founder of Amoranoor. Graduated in Civil Engineering, he became a self-made multi-disciplined entrepreneur. He is also an active motivational speaker, invited to talk shows, also published under newspapers and magazine. He is registered with professional bodies namely DOE, DOSH, IEM, BEM, ENSEARCH, MIHA and AECCOM. AMR Group has received a few recognitions such as accreditation for laboratory and also Excellence Award from UTM under his leadership. Other achievements are partnership agreement with international companies in Asia, Europe and Middle East. He always ensures that his companies are actively involves with CSR programs in giving back to the society.

Mr. Drew Binsky

Travel Video Content Creator

Drew Binsky is a 27 year old travel video maker and blogger from Arizona, aiming to inspire young adults to get out of their comfort zone. He’s visited 153 countries since 2012, and plans to see every country in the world by 2020. Drew first got the travel bug from studying abroad in Prague, then taught English in South Korea where he started his first travel blog in 2013. In Jan 2015, Drew left Korea and went on a mission to visit all the countries, while making a living through his blog and social media. It wasn’t until early 2017 when he picked up a video camera to start making daily videos, and 2 years later, he’s surpassed 600 million overall views and 2.5 million followers. Apart from traveling, Drew is a huge sports fan, golfer and a 2X Guinness World Record Holder. You can find him @drewbinsky on all social media.

Mr. Matthias Gelber

Environmentalist

Matthias Gelber comes from Burbach-Lippe, a small German village surrounded by the forest and he pursued his passion to help the planet with a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science from Brunel University UK. In 2008, he was voted ‘Greenest Person on the Planet’ in a global online competition and he received the Green Icon of the year award in Malaysia in 2016. He published a book made from recycled paper only that was printed with ink made from mushrooms and built SE Asia's first off-grid tiny eco home in Malaysia in 2017. He has been trainer and judge at Miss Earth Philippines, Malaysia and Miss Earth Global. He co founded Maleki GmbH in 2007 and he has given eco talks in a professional capacity in 42 countries internationally. Matthias has given many talks for hotels on how to go green and he is particularly interested in how guest can change their behaviour in hotels to support them with their green programs.

Mr. Ng Zhu Hann

Chief Strategist

Hann obtained his LLB (Honours) in Laws from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2010 and a postgraduate in NUS Singapore. He passed the Singapore Bar and Malaysia Bar. Hann then worked at the top American law firm - Baker McKenzie, specialising in regional Corporate M&A, IPO and real estate deals. He later joined Sunway Group as Group Strategist focusing on expanding one of the largest property conglomerate in Malaysia. He is currently the Chief Strategist for Country Garden Malaysia. Hann is also the youngest Chief Strategist of a Fortune 500 MNC in the country. He is amongst the youngest self-made corporate leader and most watched up & coming industry expert in the Malaysia property & construction industry. Hann’s rich experience in business, investment, diplomacy, government, strategy and leadership led him to be interviewed by many local and international medias such as Reuters, Forbes, New York Times, Washington Post, Phoenix, CCTV, and others.

Mr. Warren Mak

Founder and Managing Director of TED WEALTH PLT

Warren Mak is the Founder and Managing Director of TED WEALTH PLT, a training company in the capital market. He is a sought-after speaker with over 26 years of investing and trading experience in the banking, securities and derivatives markets. He opted for early retirement at 49 years old after heading 5 different departments in Bursa Malaysia Bhd for 15 years. He established Bursa’s Investor Education Department in 2013 and set up 20 Bursa Young Investor Clubs in universities nationwide. He is an accredited trainer for the Securities Commission of Malaysia and Continuous Professional Education (CPE) for CMSRL license holders. He holds a Master’s Degree in Finance (RMIT, Australia) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (California State University, Fresno USA) where he was awarded the Distinguished International Graduate of the Year 1993. He is also a holder of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM).

Karen Foo is a Motivational Speaker, an author and professional Financial Trainer in Singapore.She is actively involved in speaking at various conferences, seminars and expos, workshops, toastmaster club in Singapore and Malaysia. Having overcome numerous setbacks in her life, she has gone on to inspire thousands of youths, working executives and leaders of various companies to REALIZE THEIR ABSOLUTE WILDEST DREAMS through her interactive, inspiring and engaging talks. Being labelled as the “quietest student and non-achiever” throughout her life, she went to win numerous awards in public speaking. Karen Foo has been ranked #1 in a Singapore nationwide Forex trading competitions, competing with over 200 traders from NUS, NTU and many top ranked institutions. She was also ranked 10th in a contest organized by FX street, competing with 3000 traders from over 20 countries. Her wide range of experience has led her to co- author a book “Turning ideas into Profit”.

Ms. Lenna Lim

Actress

Lenna Lim was recognized by Malaysian audience after she was crowned Champion of Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2011 and the Most Photogenic award. In the same year, she won the second runner up in Miss Chinese International Pageant 2012, Asian Pacific Fashionable Elegant award and Metropolis Charm award. She officially ventured into the film industry and became one of the favorite local actress. She was featured in The New Village, The Noise, King of Mahjong, The Kid from the Big Apple, Before We Forget. She also starred as one of the main cast, Mei Yue in theater play, The Tragicomedy of Errors this year. Lenna is also an active cyclist, she participated in a few local cycling races and also ride frequently with her friends. An addition to her health lifestyle, she is also a runner and previously had participated in some local duathlon races too. Her positive image has gain her the relationship with Adidas as she is one of the Adidas’s friends in Malaysia.

Ms. Saran Mutang Tagal

Humanitarian & Crafter

Saran is of Lun Bawang heritage who grew up in Miri, Sarawak. She read Law in Manchester University, UK and when practising law as a lawyer in the big city did not fulfill her, she turned to humanitarian refugee work with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Always one to work with her hands creatively, she also co-founded DIYKL (Do-It-Yourself Kuala Lumpur / @diykl) whilst working a full-time job, out of a passion to teach and empower people to find their inner creative self such as leathercrafting, jewellery making and photography. Despite working a full-time job, Saran’s “side-hustle” DIYKL has been featured on a variety of platforms such as The MTV Show for MTV Asia, 8TV News, BFM 89.9 The Business Station, The Edge, etc. and provided corporate creative services such as to Lancôme, L’Oreal, Rebecca Minkoff, Pandora, Traveloka, Amorepacific and The Face Shop.
