In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Analisa DiFeo

Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School

Dr. Analisa DiFeo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her doctoral research in 2008 at Mount Sinai School of Medicine where she helped define alternative ways of splicing KLF6 gene as a regulator for ovarian cancer. To this day most of her accomplishments are dedicated towards the research of ovarian cancer, and her research is recognized by over 50 publications in journals like The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Communications, and Science Translational Medicine. She also co-founded and serves as the Chair of the Board of Scientific Advisors of The Young Scientist Foundation (YSF), helping high school students better understand the world of scientific research.

Daniel McKeen

Computer Science Teacher at Solon High School

Daniel McKeen is a beloved computer science teacher at Solon High School, after receiving his BA in Mathematics at Hiram College and his MS in Management Science (with a concentration in Operations Research) at Case Western Reserve University. In 2010, he was distinguished as Ohio’s AP teacher of the year by the College Board. In 2004, he appeared on an episode of 20/20, entitled “Be My Baby,” documenting his “open adoption” process.

Derek Taylor

Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University

Dr. Derek J. Taylor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University, specializing in research on cells. Dr. Taylor has worked as a Research Associate for the Nobel Laureate Dr. Thomas Cech studying telomerase. Dr. Taylor will be discussing one of the primary research projects he and his team are pursuing in his research lab at Case Western Reserve University. This project focuses specifically on the role of telomeres, or the ends of chromosomes, in aging and in cancer.
