He is a Vaishnava Hindu theologian specialising in Vedanta philosophy. Originally, from Belfast, he was principal of Bhaktivedanta Manor near Watford and is now director of Buckland Hall in Wales and a trustee of the faith authority for the Avanti Hindu schools in the UK.
Alexandros Efstratiou
A dedicated and visionary final-year psychology student at the University of East Anglia. Pragmatic experience in Human Resources, policy development, pitch presentations, qualitative/quantitative research, statistical analysis, marketing, social media, and leadership. Top performer of UEA's School of Psychology in my first two years of study, and recipient of UEA Student Union's Office Student Staff of the Year in 2017-18.
Chris Preston
Chris has worked in organisational change for over 15 years, and describes himself as a “reformed project manager”.
Now working as a management consultant for a global financial services company, Chris works with leaders to help them re-think organisational design and problem solving using a holistic systems thinking approach.
Felipe Orrego
After being selected one of the best students in Italy by the Italian Parliament (final mark: 114/110 because of the numerous “Merits”), Felipe started working on his life-long dream: changing the education system. He now works for an experimental secondary school.
Janakinath Das
JD is a resident monk at ISKCON UK's headquarters, Bhaktivedanta Manor. He is currently Vice President of the College of Vedic Studies which is an educational institution that aims to help people be more conscious about their wellbeing and improve on various levels such as physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, through the medium of courses, workshops and retreats. He plays an integral role in developing and facilitating the courses using Vedantic Focused Therapy (VFT) - a concept which uses ancient eastern wisdom to develop tools and techniques to enhance the quality of life in the modern age.
JD grew up in the London suburbs and graduated from King's College London with a BEng in Telecommunications in 2007.
He has taught many sessions at top UK universities including Cambridge, UCL, Queen Mary's and Kings College, encouraging university students to think about life from a holistic perspective.
As a qualified yoga and meditation teacher, he organises and facilitates retreats internationally, encouraging participants to make small lifestyle changes that can benefit them both externally and internally. He has recently started a charity for cancer patients and those suffering from mental illnesses where he raises money to hold workshops and retreats on yoga and meditation. Through using magic and illusion, he helps people understand their minds better and strengthen their minds to overcome challenges.
Marie Brennan
My practice involves working with others to plan for culture and creativity and embraces the development of cultural places and programmes. I have worked extensively researching and producing cultural strategies for local and national governments. More recently my practice in design management involves working with emerging creative entrepreneurs and, training delivery while also advising on production, materials and costs alongside brand management and marketing.
I am passionate about the relationship between arts, design, media, architecture and the environment and am an ambassador for the marine pollution awareness organization 5 Gyres Project in the USA. I am currently researching the role of creative practice in terms of consumerism and the environment. I believe in access to high-quality arts for all and have worked in areas relating to arts and disability, diversity and social inclusion.
Mark Zeitoun
Mark’s research on environmental policy and politics follows three themes: a) transboundary water conflict and cooperation, at international, sub-national and trans-national levels; b) water policy and social justice issues; and c) urban water supply and treatment during and immediately following armed conflict. The topics are interpreted with theory from numerous disciplines, including political economy, political ecology, justice, law, politics, and hydrology.
Sheheryar Banuri
Development Economics and Public Sector Economics.
While working for the World Bank, Sheheryar has conducted field research and provided policy guidance in Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the US.
His empirical work is also featured in the World Development Report 2015: Mind, Society, and Behavior.
Sophie Bunce
Sophie is Editor-in-Chief of Concrete, UEA’s student newspaper which received a BBC nomination for Best Student Publication in 2018. Her work was also published on the Radio Times Online.
She personally received an SPA nomination for best feature at last year’s awards for her exploration of mental health services on campus!
At the university, she studies English Literature with Creative Writing and was published in both the 2017 and 2018 undergraduate anthology for her stories which focus on finding complexity within normalcy and often, to his horror, explore her relationship with her twin.
Sophie won the 2018/19 TEDxChallenge at UEA to gain her place on the stage.
