In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Dineo Diana Tamia Serame

Poet+ Mental Health Activist+ Mechanical Engineer
Dineo M. Serame is a BEng Mechanical Engineering graduate. She co-authored an energy engineering paper published with MRS Advance, a journal under the Cambridge Core. Dineo has tutored with All Brilliant Minds Organization, a group of volunteers who aim to enhance the academic performance of students through the provision of free essential services. She is among other things a performance poet, having graced the stage of Mmakgosi Live (a show that aims to sensitize people on mental health) twice as a curtain raiser, and also contributing a poem to Majaga T&Kenosi B’s new book. She is a survivor of Bipolar Disorder and that has driven her towards mental Health activism. Dineo is the 2018 winner of the Rhodes scholarship for the Southern African region, which offers her a chance to do her graduate studies at the University of Oxford. While in Oxford, she wants to take part in the development of wearable devices for bio-monitoring applications in healthcare specifically mental health.

Igamu Bonyongo

law student
Igamu is a fourth year University of Botswana student, pursuing a Bachelors of Law degree. Igamu has a keen interest in the development of small scale businesses, he believes in the art of thinking big while starting small. Small scale business development has a great potential to elevate the economy and diversify the economy if handled well. he is a volunteer at the Cancer Association Of Botswana (CAB), its very dear to his heart as his grandfather was a survivor of cancer and through his volunteerism Igamu have learnt more about the disease and how it affects peoples daily lives. The association gives hopes to those people who otherwise would not have the financial muscle to carry them through all treatments necessary. He is in the process of creating his own foundation with a colleague of concentrating on the development of children in the most rural of areas in our country. The future is in their hands and needs to be harnessed quite early on.

He is a member of Toastmasters International and Founder & President of Botswana Young Speakers Association. BQA Accredited Trainer. His inspirational keynote covers professional and personal development, leadership principles. He also speaks on international platforms like WBG in Washington DC, South Korea, Seoul, Nigeria, Asia Pacific and Kenya.

Maria Lungu

Business Law Researcher and Social Activist
Maria Lungu has curated her brand to include a passion for law, ethical business practices, and social activism. In 2008, Maria left Botswana and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science at The University of Charleston with high honors. She then attended the University of Tennessee College of Law and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. Finally Maria went on to receive an M.B.A where she started to focus on how social activism and the business model should coincide for progressive communities. Maria has been awarded the Scholarly and Research Funds Award for Research and will continue to produce research in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility. Maria prides herself on her diverse cultural experience and multilingual abilities. With a passion for leadership and equal justice, Maria has dedicated her life to being an advocate for those who cannot defend themselves as well as being a catalyst for change in developing countries.

Shathani Rampa

neuropsychologist
Shathani Rampa is a neuropsychologist, advocate, Christian, mother, and wife. She studied psychology and politics at the University of Cape Town, and went on to complete her honours degree in psychology at the same institution. In 2012 she completed her MSc in Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol. Shathani has focused her academic career on research around HIV and mental health, focusing on research that can lead to impacts on Botswana society. In addition, she is seeking to increase the profile of psychology in Botswana. Shathani is working towards validating neuropsychological assessments for the Botswana population, to ensure fair and appropriate testing of Batswana. Apart from her academic career, Shathani is an advocate for young people to become active citizens, especially in terms of their mind set.

Tonderai Jones Tsara

Creative Communicator + Economic Growth Activist
Tonderai Tsara has 22 years strategy and creative communications experience in Botswana and Africa. He has worked on global campaigns for brands such as Orange. In his career in Botswana, Tonderai has worked on most of Botswana’s biggest marketers and advertisers. In 2005 he co-founded The Dialogue Group. Tonderai writes extensively on national economic development and job creation in the media and online. He recently started a video and interactive blog called “Growth | Dialogue – ideas to grow Botswana”. The blog is a platform on which he writes and curates novel ideas for job creation and economic growth.

Tshepo Mogapaesi

Dr. Tshepo Mogapaesi is a lecturer in the Department of Law, University of Botswana. She holds a Bachelor of Laws obtained from University of Botswana in 2012. Dr. Mogapaesi also holds a Master of Laws in Labour Law obtained from the North-West University (South Africa) in 2014.She is passionate about the advancement of workers rights in the workplace. In October 2018, she was awarded a Doctor of Laws degree by the North-West University (South Africa), making her the youngest Motswana woman to obtain the degree under the age of 30. Dr. Mogapaesi is a humanitarian and feminist. She is passionate about social justice and gender equality.
