In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alexandria Reynolds

Assistant Professor of Psychology at UVa-Wise

Dr. Alexandria M. Reynolds is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Dr. Reynolds received her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of South Carolina (USC) under the direction of Dr. Shawn D. Youngstedt and Dr. Jennifer M. C. Vendemia. She earned the USC Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2015 for her work on sleep extension in older adults. Her primary research interests include experimental psychology and sleep, specifically including human cognition, mood, and attention related to sleep duration. She is currently working on a multi-phase intervention project with her research students to improve sleep in college students. Dr. Reynolds’ favorite courses to teach include Psychology of Sleep, as well as Sleep and Dreaming.

Daniel Ray

Associate Professor of Computer Science at UVa-Wise

Dr. Daniel A. Ray is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia's College at Wise where he has served since 2007. Dr. Ray teaches across the Computer Science curriculum with special emphasis on Algorithms, Information Security, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Ray was awarded the Harrison Award for Outstanding Teacher in 2015, and the Harrison Award for Outstanding Instructional Support the following year. In 2009, Dr. Ray founded the Summer Program in Robotics and Intelligent Technology (S.P.I.R.I.T.), a yearly week-long robotics and programming camp geared toward area middle school students, and has served as the program's director since its inception.

Kristina Feeser

Associate Professor of Psychology at UVa-Wise

A native of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Feeser received her B.S., M.Ed., and Ph.D. all from the University of Pittsburgh. Her area of specialization is adolescent and family therapy. She currently teaches developmental and counseling related courses. Dr. Feeser is a senior faculty member at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She is currently in her twenty-second year of teaching at the college. While preparing students to work in mental health is her primary activity, she also engages in research with students looking at how stress and depression affect college students. Dr. Feeser has over 20 publications, including an Introduction to Psychology textbook along with over 30 presentations in her 35 years of teaching. She currently lives with her husband and 3 cats in Kingsport, Tennessee. She has one daughter who is in a doctoral program in Psychology. Outside interests include singing in a variety of choirs as well as performing solo works.

Scott Addison

Principal and Director of Federal Programs for City of Norton, VA

Dr. Scott Addison is currently working as principal and director of federal programs in Norton, VA. He is an adjunct professor of education at the University of the Cumberlands and UVa-Wise. He holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from UC. Dr. Addison earned an Ed.S in Instructional Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University, MBA in Strategic Leadership from Amberton University, and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Additionally, Dr. Addison earned a Th.D in Pastoral Theology. Dr. Addison has worked in various PK-12/central office positions including, director of finance, assistant principal, mathematics teacher and collaborative special education teacher. Dr. Addison continues to conduct seminars and professional development for organizations in the tri-state region. Dr. Addison lives in Norton, VA with his wife and two children, where he and his family are passionately involved in the work of their local church.

Shankar Naskar

Director, UVa-Wise Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Shankar is currently programming entrepreneurship education and experiential learning at the University of Virginia at Wise. He is the Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Assistant Professor and the Lead Faculty for the Summer Program in Entrepreneurship and Cybersecurity. Shankar received his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from the University of Louisville, two MBAs from the University of Utah and Goa Institute of Management, India and two MA degrees in Sociology and History from the University of Mumbai. Shankar has been associated with Technology Commercialization at the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative, Innovation-Based Economic Development in Nevada and with the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. Apart from academia, Shankar is a management consultant and organization-executive coach with more than 20 years of international business and leadership experience. His research interests are at the intersection of strategy-entrepreneurship-human resources.
