We've become accustomed to the verbal assaults of modern social discourse. What was once considered rude and disrespectful is normal and commonplace.
A sad point on the timeline of deteriorating discourse was the disbandment of The Civility Project in 2011, after a failed 2-year attempt to improve political rhetoric. The reason given? Founder Mark DeMoss cited "a general lack of interest, as well as pervading signs that the nature of political discourse appeared only to be deteriorating."
Our TEDxPlanoSalon session will explore the value and challenges of restoring civility to social discourse. With our TEDxPlano 2019 theme "Pivot" in mind, this Salon will allow participants to reconsider relationships, interpersonal dialogue and critical thinking.
