In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Bruce Friedrich is cofounder and executive director of The Good Food Institute (GFI), an international nonprofit that is fostering a sustainable, healthy and just agricultural system through food innovation. With branches in the United States, India, Israel, Brazil, Europe and Asia Pacific, GFI is accelerating the production of plant-based and cell-based meat, eggs and dairy in order to bolster the global protein supply while protecting our environment, promoting global health, and preventing food insecurity and animal cruelty. Friedrich has penned op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Wired and many other publications. He has appeared on The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News and a variety of programs on MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN. Friedrich holds distinguished degrees from Georgetown University Law Center, Johns Hopkins University and the London School of Economics.

Danish Siddiqui

Danish Siddiqui, is a Pulitzer winning photojournalist who has covered natural disasters and several man-made disasters like wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and Rohingya refugee crisis. He has been a journalist for more than a decade and worked on assignments in several countries around the world. He has graduated in economics and done masters in mass communication. He heads a team of photographers working for an international news agency.

Eli Beer

Life Saver

Eli Beer is the father of five children, a social entrepreneur and president and founder of United Hatzalah of Israel, an independent, non-profit, fully volunteer EMS organisation that provides fast and free emergency first response throughout Israel. United Hatzalah's model of using community-based lifesavers has been implemented in 21 countries and has resulted in hundreds of thousands of lives being saved.

Gangadhar Patil

Gangadhar Patil, 34, is a TED and Ashoka fellow. He quit mainstream media in 2015 to pursue his interest in investigative journalism by building a strong network of grassroots journalists. His media startup 101Reporters is helping hundreds of local reporters tell important untold stories. His last assignment was with India's largest business daily, The Economic Times as Senior Correspondent in New Delhi. He began his journalism career with The New Indian Express, Chennai in 2010 and went on to work with Zee Media, Mumbai in 2011.

Jay Walder

Jay Walder is the Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Hyperloop One, leading the team making hyperloop a reality. Mr. Walder has led the biggest and most complex transportation systems in the world, previously serving as Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York, CEO of the MTR Corporation in Hong Kong, and Managing Director of Transport for London. Most recently, he ran Motivate, the global leader in bike share, before its sale to Lyft. Mr. Walder was also a Partner at McKinsey, where he led the Global Infrastructure Practice for the well-known consulting firm and a Professor of Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Karen Hao

Lily Peng

Health Disruptor and AI Expert

Dr. Lily Peng is a doctor by training and now works with a team of doctors, scientists, and engineers at Google Health who use AI for medical imaging, to increase the availability and accuracy of care. Some of her team’s recent work includes building models to detect diabetic eye disease, predict cardiovascular health factors, and identify breast and lung cancer. Before Google, Dr. Peng was a product manager at Doximity, the "LinkedIn for physicians” and a co-founder of Nano Precision Medical, a drug delivery device start-up. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and distinction in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, California, a doctorate in Bioengineering and a medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco.

Nirupa Rao

A National Geographic Young Explorer, Nirupa received a grant to create her book Hidden Kingdom—Fantastical Plants of the Western Ghats (published in 2019). She has also published Pillars of Life—Magnificent Trees of the Western Ghats (2018), a debut project in collaboration with naturalists Divya Mudappa and TR Shankar Raman of the Nature Conservation Foundation. She illustrated the cover of Amitav Ghosh's latest novel, Gun Island, and re-jacketed four of his older novels for Penguin-Random House. In 2019, she participated in a Plant Humanities program at Harvard University's Dumbarton Oaks Research Centre, and was due to participate in a show at their museum in 2020, which has been postponed due to COVID-19. She recently collaborated with the Centre for Wildlife Studies on Wild Shaale ('Wild School' in Kannada), an environmental and conservation-education program designed for rural school-going children, aimed at nurturing interest and empathy toward India’s wildlife and wild places. She has also been named an INK Fellow, one to 'watch out for' in Forbes India's annual 30 Under 30 issue, and one of Harper's Bazaar India's 'Indian Women to be Proud Of

Oded Shoseyov

A faculty member of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof. Shoseyov’s research is in plant molecular biology protein engineering and nano-biotechnology. His group focus on Bio-Inspired Nanocomposite materials. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific publications and is the inventor or co-inventor of 62 patents. Shoseyov is a TED speaker and co-owner and winemaker of BRAVDO winery (http://www.bravdo.co.il/home) named after his mentor, and partner Prof. Ben Ami Bravdo. Prof. Shoseyov received the Outstanding Scientist Polak Award for 2002, the 1999 and 2010 Kay Award for Innovative and Applied Research, The 2012 Israel Prime Minister Citation for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, The 2018 Presidential Award for his contribution to the Economy and Society of Israel. He is the scientific founder of 14 companies.

Rishab Jain

Child Prodigy, Scientist and Inventor

Rishab Jain is a 15-year-old inventor and researcher. He invented an artificial intelligence tool known as the Pancreatic Cancer Deep Learning System which can improve the radiotherapy (radiation) treatment for pancreatic cancer. He also invented The Pancreas Detective, an invention improving the diagnosis of gene mutations used in precision medicine. In 2018, Rishab was named America’s Top Young Scientist and amongst Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Teens. Rishab hopes to cure pancreatic cancer one day using the power of artificial intelligence.

Shneel Malik

An Architect, Biodesign Researcher & Social entrepreneur, Shneel Malik is revolutionising the way we interact with our natural resources, in particular water. Working at the intersection of architecture, novel living materials, new 3D printing techniques amalgamated with vernacular practices. As part of the Bio-Integrated Design Lab, UCL, they investigate ways of transitioning our existing urban scenarios and daily practices into systems that perform biological processes, transitioning our current linear processes into a circular economy.

Shruti Kapoor

Dr. Shruti Kapoor is the founder of Sayfty Trust and a gender equality activist. Shaken by the horrific gang rape in Delhi in 2012 that caught the attention of the global news media, she founded her organization with the goal to educate and empower women and girls in India to protect themselves from violence. Dr. Kapoor was named by Apolitical as one of the most influential people in global policy in 2019. The BrahmaKumaris awarded Dr. Kapoor the “Achievement and Excellence in Human Rights” in 2019. Beatbox Artist and Composer

Executing performances with some of the worlds most renowned orchestras, such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Cologne’s WDR Funkhausorchester, Florida’s Imperial Symphony Orchestra, Nürnberg Symphoniker, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to name a few, the pair have been turning concert halls on their heads and continuing to wow audiences with this remarkable collaboration. Simply titled, ‘Thum Prints’ this boundary pushing symphony comprises mainly of original compositions, wholly written by Tom and Gordon. Bridged by comedic interludes, it has the ability to be programmed as a full 60 minute show, or as a 20 minute concerto in a longer symphonic program.

Vrishab Krishna

Vrishab Krishna is a 16-year-old who loves computer science and math. As a child, he suffered from an eye condition called amblyopia. Amblyopia affects more than 100 million children and is the most common cause of preventable child-blindness around the world. Vrishab and his brother Viswesh created a system called Kanna to help detect amblyopia early in children using just photographs from a smartphone. Kanna has been presented at research fairs and was awarded a Grand Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2019. In his free time, Vrishab loves learning Carnatic music, playing table tennis and reading books by Isaac Asimov and JRR Tolkien. He is extremely passionate about using his understanding of computer science and math to build scalable technology solutions to tackle global healthcare problems.
