In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Han Nam

Former Pilot/Current Lawyer for Korean Air
Mr. Han Nam, a graduate of University of California Berkeley and a current lawyer for Korean Air, was born here in South Korea. Having moved to the United States early in his life, Mr. Nam was able to experience the cultural differences between Korea and the United States. While living in the States, Mr. Nam first-handedly experienced language barriers, cultural differences, and challenges as a minority. Additionally, Mr. Nam experienced an inner identity crisis while growing up. However, he was able to overcome and endure all of these challenges by staying in school and outworking his peers. In his speech, Mr. Nam will outline how he coped with his challenges and the significant of working hard in school.

IDK TBH (Band)

Student Band
IDK TBH is a student band at Taejon Christian International School, which formed in late 2019. All of the members are diverse and have unique characteristics: some are outgoing athletes, some enjoy hanging out with their friends, and some just like spending time on their phones. But the one ultimate commonality that brought the band members together was their passion for music. IDK TBH had their first performance at the 2019 TCIS Coffee Shop, where they managed to win first place. After overcoming this nerve-wracking experience, IDK TBH is eager to take on new opportunities to share their passion. IDK TBH will be performing a cover of Coldplay’s “Something Just Like This”, expressing their hope for good relationships in 2021 and beyond, as it will help with coping with change. Members: Kevin Park – Guitar / Paul Won – Saxophone / Andrew Hwang – Vocals / Juwon Suh – Drums / Jeff Chou – Piano, Keyboard / Danoo Lee – Piano, Keyboard / John Im – Guitar/ Joel Kim – Bass

Jasmine Kang

Student
Jasmine is an 18-year-old South Korean girl who lived in a small industrial city named Jubail in Saudi Arabia for 4 years. Her numerous passions include sight-reading—the art of reading and performing a piece that she has never seen before—Chopin’s classical études, studying Middle Eastern history, and finding new differences and similarities that coexist like a Venn diagram in all cultures throughout the world. Living in Saudi Arabia opened her eyes to the fact that the country is not 100% like its portrayal and perceptions in the media. So, she wishes to use music, the universal language, to communicate that everything—every place, every ethnic group—actually are similar in ways we’ve never considered. She will be performing a series of piano performances across cultures and time periods to convey that inherent empathy and the human experience connects people from all over the world.

Nathan Song

Student
Nathan Song, currently in 10th grade, was born in New York. He lived in Korea for 10 years and also lived in Sweden for a year. The first time he experienced magic was Sweden. It changed his life entirely. Magic gave him the opportunity to perform up on stages, by standing in front of a large audience many times, and it made him fall in love with public speaking and performance. When he was young, he went through struggles that were, at first, difficult to overcome. But he discovered that the best way to overcome that situation was to express his emotions and thoughts openly to the public. Since then, he started to share his experiences and the lessons that he had learned from it. He felt the urge to take this opportunity and share his passion and experiences with the public. He will be talking about 'Misdirection', relating this theory to why and how people are getting distracted from what's truly important and demonstrating it through a magic performance.
