Dang Giang

Dang Huong Giang told stories from 5 years of running a Vietnamese non-profit organization, Action for the City, showing how small scale actions can affect change through networking with other individuals and institutions. Dang Huong Giang founded Action for the City in 2006 to promote sustainable urban development. Action for the City, a registered local non-governmental organization in Hanoi, encourages citizens to minimize consumption of resources, carries out communication campaigns on reduction of transport emissions, and promotes green spaces and organic urban agriculture. Giang has been an active advocate for civil society in Vietnam for the past decade as a senior trainer and consultant for the Center for Community Empowerment and as Education Program Manager for Catholic Relief Services. Giang holds an MA in sociology from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.

Michel Bauwens

Founder of the Peer-to-Peer Foundation, Thailand, and lecturer at Bangkok University on Peer-to-peer learning and social construction. Michel Bauwens is a Belgian Peer-to-Peer theorist and an active writer, researcher and conference speaker on the subject of technology, culture and business innovation. Bauwens is founder of the Foundation for Peer-to-Peer Alternatives and works in collaboration with a global group of researchers in the exploration of peer production, governance, and property. He has been an analyst for the United States Information Agency, knowledge manager for British Petroleum (where he created one of the first virtual information centers), eBusiness Strategy Manager for Belgacom, as well as an internet entrepreneur in his home country of Belgium.

Marilyn Mehlmann

Marilyn Mehlmann is passionate about people. She also has a passion (and track record) for empowering and supporting people and groups all over the world to acquire skills, knowledge and responsibilities beyond their immediate horizons. Marilyn is also the Chief trainer and program designer of GAP International with 20 years experience from more than 20 countries. To be able to do this cross cultural work she has designed a unique method and training program for cultural adaptation of action and educational program. Marilyn started out as a journalist and magazine editor and then worked as a technical writer at IBM. Between 1979 and 1985 Marilyn has been working as a management consultant, specializing in management of projects for sustainable development. First as a part owner in a large consultant company and then through her own business. Marilyn also founded and ran the Swedish Institute for Social Inventions(SISU). On her 70th birthday she suggested to reduce her working hours to full time!

Trewin Restorick

Is the Director of Global Action Plan-UK, a charity that he founded in 1993. The charity now employs 50 staff and runs a wide range of practical sustainable development initiatives with companies, schools and community organisations. Global Action Plan-UK has won a range of awards including the Third Sector Award for its communication campaigns on Climate Change and runner up in the international Alcan Sustainability Award.
