TEDxUofSC is going virtual in 2020! South Carolina hosts its first virtual TEDxUofSC for the greater Columbia and university communities on Oct. 21, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Broadcast from the Columbia campus, the popular event is free and open to anyone in the world.
October's collection of five talks will be the second TEDx event held at the university, building on the inaugural TEDxUofSC 2018 gathering. To register, go to sc.edu/tedxuofsc.

Amit Sheth

Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Carolina
The founding director of the university’s new Artificial Intelligence Institute, Amit Sheth, is focusing on the use of AI as it pertains to augmented personal health. His team develops apps and chat bots that keep patients with chronic illness in more regular and robust communication with their health care providers. HIs team's work makes earlier intervention possible when patients are in decline.

Professor, Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences, University of South Carolina
Lorne Hofseth researches the link between chronic inflammation and cancer — specifically colon cancer, which is becoming more common in younger adults. He will talk about how a Western diet and lifestyle provides a hospitable environment for carcinogens in the human colon.
