This event occurred on
March 26, 2021
Überlingen, Baden-Württemberg
Germany

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Eva Tantsyura

Student
She is an IB1 student of Salem and it is her first year studying abroad. She is from New York, where she has lived her entire life before Germany, despite her family who immigrated from Ukraine. Eva is interested in a wide range of topics such as psychology, law, and mathematics and hopes to pursue one of the topics later in university. Aside from school, she loves to travel. Through her presentation, Eva would like to open up a different perspective about the stress from school that many adults are unaware of and help her fellow peers find a way to balance their schedule and reduce the stress that comes with studying at such a rigorous institution.

Joshua Parker

Teacher
After studying Literature and Philosophy at La Trobe University in Australia, I started teaching in 2008. Since then, I have taught English, Literature and Philosophy to senior high school students in both Australia and Germany. I started my career in 2008 at Bendigo Senior Secondary College, the largest provider of VCE in Victoria, Australia, as a teacher of Literature, Classical Studies, and Philosophy. In September 2013 I joined the team at International School Augsburg, in Germany, teaching English Language and Literature (L&L) , and Theory of Knowledge (ToK). After three years at ISA, I returned to BSSC where I was appointed to the role of Learning Specialist, working with staff to pioneer teaching and learning innovations at the college. Having returned to Germany in 2018, I embarked on a new teaching adventure in September 2019 coming to work at Schule Schloss Salem, teaching English and Ethics in the middle school and English L&L and ToK at Salem International College.

Katharina Flatt

Student
Adventurous, open-minded and curious, that’s how my friends would describe me. I am Katharina Flatt, 16 years old and currently in IB1 in Salem. I grew up in a small town in central Germany, almost as a single child as my three older siblings moved out quite early. The limited offers in my hometown, the excitement of my older sibling’s life and most certainly my curiosity gave me the wish to explore different cultures and lifestyles from the very beginning. At the end of primary school, I did my first exchange to France for six months. This experience gave me the opportunity to live in a new environment, learn a new language and develop myself at a very young age. From then on, I’ve done exchanges to Peru and the US. Together with my family, I also started travelling and exploring nature very early and continued this passion. I can never get enough of nature, especially snowy mountains and wide oceans awake an extraordinary feeling in myself.
