Theme: Energy - where polarities meet

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alexey Cherevan

Alexey Cherevan is a junior research group leader based at TU Wien’s Institute of Materials Chemistry. He studied chemistry at Moscow State University and received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Münster, after which he joined the TU to pursue his habilitation. His scientific focus is on functional inorganic and hybrid nanomaterials for a variety of energy-related applications. In particular, he develops novel tools towards the combination of the heterogeneous and homogeneous fields of photocatalysis.

Anna Mabo

Anna Mabo, born 1996 in Vienna, studied theater directing at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. Since graduating in 2019, she has been working as a director and musician in Vienna. In 2021 her second album "Notre Dame" was released on the label Bader Molden Recordings.

Benjamin Mörzinger

Benjamin Mörzinger is co-founder at gnista.io, a IoT startup based in Vienna. During his doctorate at the Technical University Vienna he led numerous applied research projects with industrial partners and developed solutions to enhance energy efficiency in the manufacturing domain. His main interests are semantic technologies, (virtual) knowledge graphs, machine learning and distributed ledger technologies in the context of industrial energy efficiency.

Caroline Schlinter-Maltan

Caroline Schlinter-Maltan, owner of the company “Büro für Ernährung” (The Nutrition Office), is an Austrian (sports-) nutrition and sensory scientist. With her trainings, workshops and talks she helps companies to maintain motivated, energetic and satisfied employees who contribute to more productivity, performance and sales. Through her teaching assignments at universities, she conveys her knowledge to young people in an understandable and practical experiential learning. In her sensory workshops, she supports a mindful approach to the subject of nutrition and enjoyment in order to be able to experience the sensory diversity of products more intensively. Thanks to her extensive know-how in the field of sensory science, she is an always popular jury member for expert tastings from specialist magazines and quality seals. As a book author, Caroline is very happy to dedicate herself to the vivid transfer of knowledge about the effects of food on our body.

Henri Paillere

Dr. Henri PAILLERE has over 25 years of experience in the nuclear energy sector, and is currently working as Head of the Planning and Economic Studies Section at the International Atomic Energy Agency which he joined in February 2020. Before that, Henri worked at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in Paris between 2011 and 2019, as Senior Analyst and Deputy Head of the Division of Nuclear Technology Development and Economics. Prior to these positions, he worked as R&D Program Manager at the Alstom Power Company and at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in various positions. A French national, he holds a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics (for aeronautics applications) from the Free University of Brussels, a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and an Engineering Diploma from the French Ecole Nationale Superieure de Techniques Avancees (ENSTA).

Karin Stieldorf

DI Dr. Karin Stieldorf researches and teaches at the Institute of Architecture and Design at TU Wien, Austria. Her research projects and publications focus on holistic design methods in architecture, based on sustainability, building physics and building ecology. The multiple award-winning specialist for sustainability (including the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria, State Prize for Sustainable Architecture) leads the TU university course in Sustainable Construction (master's program and certificate course).

Martin Putschek

Martin Putschek had a long career in the IT and solar energy sector before founding Swimsol. While on a trip to the Maldives in 2009, he came up with a solution to the problem of an abundance of sun, but not so much available land. If you have maxed out the available space for photovoltaics on land, why not put photovoltaics on the sea? By developing a marine floating solar system which can provide any required solar capacity to almost any island, an island could switch off their diesel gensets completely during daytime. Martin founded Swimsol in 2012 and worked in cooperation with the Technical University of Vienna to develop SolarSeaTM - the world's first commercial modular marine-grade floating solar system. Today Swimsol has 55 employees and has successfully completed projects in the Maldives, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and are currently expanding into new markets.
