In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Rebecca Shaw

WP-3D Hurricane Hunter and Test Pilot - National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration

Rebecca "Becky" Shaw was born in Texas. In high school, she earned an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, from which she graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. She attended Flight Training and became a Naval Aviator. She flew the P-3C, an Anti-submarine warfare aircraft, stationed in Hawaii. She deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic, serving in support of the United States European Command and United States Africa Command. Following Hawaii she attended the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School and graduated in 2016. As a Test Pilot, Becky developed and flew multiple aircraft in Patuxent River, Maryland. She completed a M.S. degree in Space Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. In 2019, she was selected as a Flag Aide for the Naval Air Systems Command Commander, a position she held until her transition to the NOAA Corps in June of 2020. By October 2020, she had flown into two Hurricanes as a pilot in the WP-3D Hurricane Hunter.
