In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Today, she therefore works as a consultant with the motto that humanity and social interaction are crucial for the efficiency of any company.

Damian Dziwis

Engineer, Composer

Damian Dziwis is an engineer and composer. He creates the majority of his works through algorithms, AI and other electronic processes. His concerts and installations have been shown and performed at various festivals such as "CTM Festival" in Berlin, "Music Tech Festival" in Stockholm or "inSonic Festival" at ZKM Karlsruhe. As an engineer he develops applications and hardware for signal processing and is currently doing his PhD in the field of virtual acoustics and holophony.

Esther Horvath

Photographer

Esther Horvath is a photographer for the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz-Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Germany. Since 2015, she has dedicated her photography to the polar regions, especially to the Arctic Ocean, documenting scientific expeditions, along with personal stories from behind the scene. By documenting the work and life of scientists who deliver important data, Esther Horvath hopes to help make a difference in how people unserstand what actually is occurring, and in collaboration with scientists, help raise public awareness regarding this fragile environments. Her work has been featured in Nationals Geographics, The News York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TIME and GEO, among others.

Hans Schipper

Climate Sctientist

Hans Schipper is the head of the South German Climate Office at the Karlsruher Institute of Technology (KIT). With his work, he wants to make climate research useful for society. This happens not only in the form of lectures and media appearances, but also in multi-year research projects with other scientific institutions. Thematically the South German Climate Office focuses on the regionalization of climate model results, the effects of extreme weather events, and how people are personally affected by climate change.

Johannes Schmid-Johannsen

Data journalist

After graduating in politics, Johannes Schmid-Johannsen began his professional career in the financial sector. He then joined Südwestrundrunk (SWR), where he worked as a reporter, trainee and business editor. Since 2017, he has been involved as a co-founder in the founding and development of a data journalism team.

Kevin German

Information Scientist

During his bachelor studies in "Computer Engineering", Kevin German came up with the idea of automating design processes together with industrial design student Marco Limm. Together, the two worked on the interdisciplinary bachelor thesis "Artificial Intelligence - Automation of the design process through artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms". Their work was presented at the international furniture fair in Milan, at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and the VDID in Stuttgart.

Roman Szeliga

Doctor

Roman Szeliga is a specialist in internal medicine and a manager, moderator, seminar leader, international speaker, agency head and author. The bracket that holds all this together is humor: as a social competence that motivates, engages and inspires people.

Sonja Thiel

Digital Catalyst

Sonja Thiel is a Digital Catalyst at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe and leads the project "Creative User Empowerment" to open up and develop AI systems for museums, which will be implemented together with the Allard Pierson Museum Amsterdam until the end of 2013.

Verena Mohaupt

Scientist

Verena Mohaupt works at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). As logistics coordinator during the MOSAiC expedition, she ensured that everything ran smoothly on board the Polarstern so that the scientists could collect important data for climate research. Although she has not done any research herself, as a physicist she knows how scientific work is done. After her studies, she worked for Greenpeace and for four years as station manager for the AWI on Spitsbergen.
