What are expressions, if not stories untold, waiting to unfold?
Human hearts are museums of expressions, carrying our stories. Sometime we drench ourselves in syrupy nostalgia, by dancing to a song that taught us what being alive felt like for the very first time. Sometimes we get acquainted with the stains of our melancholy, by making it our favourite colour to paint with. Sometimes we pour our happiness on a white sheet of paper, saturating it with words of a language only we know. Sometimes we turn all our internal screams, into a beautiful melody. Sometimes we escape reality and relive our lost dreams through a character on stage.
Dancing, painting, writing, singing, acting – isn’t it achingly beautiful as to how so many expressions resides in all of us, and how we use them to bring out the good, the bad and the indifferent in us?
We are delighted to announce our theme for this year – Expressions. Expressions that represent feelings, art and sometimes even silences.
We use expressions to show our innermost feelings, in many ways. But ironically, this has now become a concept we follow to please others. Nowadays we smile more to please people in front of us than to please our own selves. We stop our tears keeping others’ situations in mind instead of taking care of our own. Some of the artworks that we used to make to express ourselves now thrive off validation only. As Maya Angelou said - 'A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.
Through the speakers present today, we will learn and unlearn, and revisit this concept, so we can unravel our stories in the best way possible.
