Amisha Paul
Student
Amisha is a senior at UConn pursuing a B.S. in Physiology and Neurobiology and B.A. in Economics, with minors in Global Studies and Anthropology of Global Health. On-campus, she serves as the Executive Director of UConn Global Health Spaces on Campus, organizing UConn's annual Global Health Symposium and Hackathon in efforts to encourage campus-wide awareness and dialogue surrounding current challenges and progress in global health. She has also been recognized as a UN Foundation Global Health Fellow and a Millennium Fellow. She volunteers with the Mobility is Medicine program at Hartford Hospital and conducts social determinants of health and health literacy screenings at UConn Health. Amisha enjoys performing as a trained Odissi dancer and promoting Indian classical arts on campus in her role as Co-President of Sanskriti, UConn's Indian Classical Arts collaborative. UH.
Luiza Printes dos Santos
MFA Student
With a life built through multicultural experiences and visual narratives, Luiza grew up shadowing her parents through their work and conferences around the world. After graduating with a bachelor’s in International Relations studies from PUCSP, followed by a Master of Arts in Communications from Penn State University, she is now pursuing an MFA in Digital Media & Design from UConn, soon to become an educator in the field of digital culture and visual communications. Luiza truly believes in the intersection between modern philosophy and visual narratives as a learning strategy to inspire our current and following generation to interpret the digital media reality we are living in. Today, she is focused on the progress of her research which interrogates, through theory and multimedia experiments, our digital behaviors with smartphone photography and its impact on how we are experiencing reality.
Nishith Prakash
Associate Professor of Economics
Born and raised in Bihar, India, he earned his B.A. (honors) in Economics from Shivaji College, M.A. in Economics from Delhi School of Economics (India), and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Houston, TX. Previously, he held visiting positions at MIT, Yale University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, and Boston University to name a few. He is also currently serving on the Editorial Board of PLOS One, a peer-reviewed open access scientific journal. His research provides rigorous evidence which supports strategies for empowering women, understanding barriers to human capital accumulation, and addressing the gender gap in education. Professor Prakash has widely published in top-tier academic journals and his research has been featured in The Economist, BBC, World Economic Forum, Financial Times, Forbes, The Atlantic, The Times of India, and other national and international newspapers.
