In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Working with young people, whether at school or in a scout troop, gives him a sense of purpose - he can spread his knowledge, understanding, and experience to those willing to listen. For David, it is fun, joy, and a great challenge and it is this dynamic that motivates him to keep doing what he is doing and finding ways to reach those who don't want to hear. He strives to help students achieve the best possible results through democratic principles and innovation in teaching. It was the democratic approach to schooling that he adopted at Summerhill School, where he has worked, which has greatly deepened his ability to work with self-directed learning in close collaboration with students.
