Theme: Our Collective Resilience

In the spirit of TED's Mission, "ideas worth spreading," the TEDxKIETPakistan program will be planned and coordinated independently by the students and faculty of Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology. The theme of the event is open to interpretation and every speaker and member of the audience can resonate with it in their own manner. TEDxKIETPakistan aims to spark deep connection and discussion with the audience. Membership in social groups bears the promise of being part of something more long-lasting than our own finite existence: Collective continuity provides solace and orientation to individuals, especially when faced with threats. Emergent solidarities do not only bring closer people facing the threat locally but also globally; they could potentially result in increased ‘identification with all humanity’. The Act of Resilience is not only a decision-making process but also a process of creating new solutions.

Abdul Waheed Punjwani

President of Pakistan Business Group Organisation (PBGO)

Mr. Abdul Waheed Punjwani is a pioneer, innovative promoter and developer in fields such as B2B, Incoterms, Door-2-door and many more! He has also worked on numerous projects like the development of e-commerce international platforms. Mr. Abdul Waheed Punjwani is the President of Pakistan Business Group Organisation as well as the founder and chairman of National Chain of Support.

Aysal Waheed

A young passionate equestrian

Aysal Waheed, a 13-year-old passionate equestrian, fulfilled her dream of becoming a skilled horse rider at just 8 years old. Alongside her love for horse riding, she proved herself as an excellent Ice Hockey player, earning recognition in city-level competitions in Muscat, Oman. Aysal's talents extend beyond sports; she excels in creative writing and public speaking, securing the 1st position in various public speaking competitions as a member of ANA Gavel Club. Her accomplishments have garnered media recognition and commendations from prestigious officials, including the Pakistan Embassy in Oman and Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh, Pakistan for Youth Affairs. Notably, she clinched the 3rd Best Writer position in a global creative writing competition and received the Youth Leader Award for Best Writer' Performer at the 2nd National Youth Peace Award. Aysal's journey exemplifies exceptional talent and determination at such a young age.

Dr. Abdul Bari Khan

President, Indus Hospital and Health Network

Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, a distinguished surgeon, is renowned for establishing and leading the world-class Indus Hospital, providing free healthcare to millions in Pakistan. Hailing from a middle-class background, he graduated from Dow Medical College in 1986. Witnessing the dire state of Sindh's public cardiac surgery center during his residency at NICVD, he initiated fundraising efforts, expanding operation theaters and ICU, resulting in better training facilities and shorter waiting lists for patients. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan also established critical departments like Emergency, Blood Center, and a free Diagnostic Center at Civil Hospital Karachi. Through 'Friends of Cardiac Surgery,' he raised funds for a model Cardiac Surgery Center, offering free surgeries to the needy. Honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz, he's a healthcare visionary, driving advancements and empowering Pakistan's healthcare landscape with unwavering dedication.

Kamran Ali Khan

Engineer at Computer Systems and Assistant Professor at KIET

He is an engineer, asst. Professor for the last 25 years AND a faculty of KIET, apart from that Mr. Kamran is also a motivational speaker and quantum spiritualist.

Muhammad Jawwad Paracha

Global Program Manager and Inventor, IBM

Jawwad is a technologist living his life exploring new ideas everyday. As a technology program manager, he engages from nurturing of the idea till development stages, specializes in converting business strategy into actions, delivering to clients and managing the post-sale as well. He has worked on numerous large scale and complex programs across 240 countries. He is also an inventor who has multiple patents and publications. Also, an amateur cyclist, runner (London Marathoner), scuba diver and loves trekking.

Noosha Zuberi

Aviation Management Student + Artist

Noosha Zuberi is a student at KIET Pakistan and is studying Aviation Management! Noosha is an artist who originates paintings, drawings, and sculptures. She is even collaborating with a business called Saatchi Art, an online platform for discovering and buying art from all around the world.

Zunaira Waheed

A young talented author

Zunaira Waheed is a 17 years old high school student, a young author and a motivational speaker. Her first published book is “That Night”, a mystery book. She has also written two anthologies with many talented writers titled “Blessings of Life in 2020” and “Cocktail.” Zunaira has written a plethora of motivational articles and fictional stories which have been published on various platforms including magazines, blogs and social media channels. In appreciation of all her efforts to create a positive change in the world, she has been awarded the following prestigious awards - Educational Leadership Award by Global Youth Awards - Author of the Year – 2022, Monmousmi, an educational platform in India - “Certificate of Commendation”, one of the best Pakistani Women in Oman by the Pakistan Embassy in Oman.
