Bethan Smith
Student and Disability Activist
Casual ableism has become all too common in everyday conversations. A lack of education concerning disabilities, coupled with this colloquial discrimination, creates a hostile environment for those in the disabled community and holds back progress. Bethan is a passionate advocate for the disabled community and has learnt that simple actions, like addressing the problem of ableism in your own circles, may seem small or insignificant, but they can in fact have a large impact.
Bethan's talk will be about her experiences with ableism as a woman diagnosed with autism. Bethan will discuss her work from across social media, public education and her newest venture, the book she is currently writing. She will also address the negative, harmful stereotypes about disabled people and suggest simple actions you can take in your everyday life, to be a better ally.
