A tsunami can start with the shaking of a butterfly’s wings, and as the adage goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. When aiming for greatness, it is not just about the big strides, grand ideas, and far-reaching ambitions. In TEDxWarwick's 2023 student salon, we want to draw your attention to the commonly overlooked and oftentimes crucial “Little Great Things” that make all the difference.

Bethan Smith

Student and Disability Activist
Casual ableism has become all too common in everyday conversations. A lack of education concerning disabilities, coupled with this colloquial discrimination, creates a hostile environment for those in the disabled community and holds back progress. Bethan is a passionate advocate for the disabled community and has learnt that simple actions, like addressing the problem of ableism in your own circles, may seem small or insignificant, but they can in fact have a large impact. Bethan's talk will be about her experiences with ableism as a woman diagnosed with autism. Bethan will discuss her work from across social media, public education and her newest venture, the book she is currently writing. She will also address the negative, harmful stereotypes about disabled people and suggest simple actions you can take in your everyday life, to be a better ally.

Purvi Agarwal

Student and Entrepreneur
Purvi's talk includes the real story of a student entrepreneur who started her own start-up 2 years ago and the challenges she faced along the way. She started with zero investment, zero network and zero resources, yet she built a company where she currently mentors 200+ Warwick students and has seen 200% increase in revenue. She started small and slowly, yet built it big. Purvi's talk aims to elucidate the best strategies for students aiming to build a start-up at university, and how to navigate challenges and negative feedback.

Raghav Verma

Student
Billions of people have dreams about their ideal life. But many fail to achieve them in this long journey called life. The root of this failure all tracks down to one key factor – ‘they just couldn’t keep themselves on track for long enough’. Raghav's talk aims to help you in keeping yourself on track to achieve your life vision by taking small actions. The process involves 2 key steps: 1. Make sure you don’t ruin your present. 2. Setting the criteria for our brain’s filter
