In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

David Owasi

David Owasi is a Nigerian-Canadian entrepreneur and Computer Science graduate from the University of Manitoba. From starting a house-painting business during his university years to running a 7-figure marketing agency, David now leads a team of 9 in developing AI-powered marketing intelligence software. Recognized as an expert at the intersection of marketing and AI, he recently hosted a Chambers workshop on the subject. Outside of his professional achievements, David finds joy and balance in playing soccer.

Dr. Steven Theriault

Dr. Steven Theriault is a distinguished scientist, researcher, educator and entrepreneur whose career evolved from paramedic to PhD in Medical Microbiology to researcher to entrepreneur. Steven was a member of the Government of Canada team that developed the Ebola vaccine. He now focuses his attention on addressing the antibiotic crisis using bacteriophages.

Dr. Sumreen Javed

Dr. Sumreen Javed holds both a PharmD and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of British Columbia), with postdoctoral training from Harvard Medical School. As an oncology pharmacist at CancerCare Manitoba, she advocates for cancer prevention, provides cancer therapy and supportive care management education. Join her as she shares practical strategies that can make a significant difference in our lives, helping us to not only treat cancer but also prevent it.

As Interim Executive Director of IISD Experimental Lakes Area, she has dedicated her career to understanding and protecting freshwater habitats across Canada, Europe and Southeast Asia. Pauline loves to spend time canoeing across lakes and critter dipping for bugs in ponds and wetlands.
