Arin Harkawat

Arin Harkawat is a high school junior who has always had a passion for Environmental Studies, specifically Environmental Justice and Health. He has worked on a number of research projects tackling environmental issues across the nation to support the growing environmental justice movement. Arin also serves on the NJ Chapter Social and Environmental Justice Committee as well as the Youth Committee to discuss and implement solutions to address the disproportionate level of environmental issues faced in underserved communities. As an environmental activist, Arin is going to discuss a research study he was able to take part in and advocate for solutions individuals must take to bring equity to those facing increased levels of plastic pollution, toxic metals, air pollution, and more.

Kathleen Wang is a freshman at WHRHS and public speaking enthusiast. In addition to being a varsity fencer, Kathleen is also a WHRHS Waksman scholar, speech and debate PF Chair, choir pianist, and holder of many local and national speech and debate titles. Kathleen's talk "Eternal Vitality" explores the ins and outs of longevity while also encompassing the broad ethical concerns associated with this topic. Throughout this talk, Kathleen is going to slowly uncover the moral compass holding us together and help you to discover the true meaning of vitality.

Through mindfulness, movement, and mental well-being techniques, individuals can enhance their resilience, creativity, and overall well-being. Sawyer Landau's talk, "Harnessing the Power of Psychophysical Awareness for Personal and Professional Growth," delves into practical strategies for cultivating awareness and improving outcomes in both academic and corporate settings. He will share insights and actionable steps towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Yaneen Parikh is a high school junior who ardently advocates the ever-growing importance of communication in the workplace. His experience during the COVID-19 pandemic made him realize disparities in students' communication skills and the possible detriments they will have on his peers' futures. Based on knowledge he has gained from his participation in various Toast Masters programs, Yaneen will share the changes that should be made to enhance efficiency in professional spaces in his talk "Communicate, Connect, Collaborate" -- something that will not only benefit the workforce, but also help youth achieve their fullest potential.

Zoya Balakrishnan is a sophomore at Watchung Hills with a passion for psychology. As a first-generation Indian American student, she is fascinated by the various ever-changing cultural and social norms found in today's world. Having visited over twenty-five countries and spent three years living in Europe, she is well-versed in the nuances of different cultures around the world and is fascinated by the role this has played in developing her own identity and culture. “How Much ‘I’ in Identity?” delves into our warped definitions of identity as well as all of the hidden factors that play a role in developing and changing it over time. A personal reflection combined with psychological research, her talk promotes introspection on our cultural identities and how they affect our lives on a day-to-day basis.
