In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amy Yip

In January 2020, after 16+ years of building and leading global teams in organizations including Google, Clorox, and Booz Allen, Amy left the corporate world, sold everything, and took a one-way flight to Ghana with her husband to volunteer at a breast cancer nonprofit and travel the world. COVID-19 shifted their plans; they got stuck in Ghana for seven months. Through this experience, Amy discovered a profound truth: Your mindset, not your circumstances, makes all the difference in your happiness and success. Today, Amy collaborates with organizations to accelerate the growth of underrepresented groups into leadership roles and helps their workforce reconnect to one another as human beings. In this talk, Amy will share practical insights and strategies to turn differences into strengths, enhancing both personal and professional relationships.

Arman Roshannai

Arman Roshannai is the co-founder and CTO of 222, a Y-Combinator & General Catalyst backed startup providing access to meaningful IRL social experiences & combating the modern problem of social isolation exacerbated by social media & dating apps. At 222, Arman works on engineering software to facilitate IRL social encounters & developing Machine Learning algorithms to predict in-person social compatibility. Previously, Arman conducted research on Large Language Models at DeepMind & worked on Machine Learning optimizations at Google. He graduated in 2022 from USC with his BS & MS in computer science where he conducted research on Artificial Intelligence for healthcare and robotics simulation.

Monroe Mann

Monroe Mann is the founder of BreakDiving.io, a global, not-for-profit personal growth community, as well as Intertect, an international private investigation and intelligence NGO. Mann has an eclectic background including his nomination for a bronze star for his service in Iraq as an intelligence officer, his multiple adventures as an expat living in Shanghai, and his creation of a real estate investment company in Maine and Florida called Windermere Lodge. Mann is also the author of 10 published books, with a PhD in psychology focused on the decision-making processes of successful entertainers. Mann currently lives in Miami Beach, Florida, and is coding a new contact management application for busy well-connected people called, “Contact Points”.

Mychal Pagan

Mychal, a storyteller, scholar, photographer, and filmmaker, is on a mission to redefine narratives by amplifying marginalized voices. As the founder of Papillon Creative Lab, Mychal wants to inspire positive change through the art of storytelling and design, dedicating his craft to serving others. Currently serving as the Associate Director of Communications at Thrive For Life, a nonprofit committed to transforming lives both behind and beyond prison walls, Mychal's work pushes boundaries of what is possible for students with experiences of incarceration. A recent graduate from NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Mychal explored the intricate interplay between physical spaces, narrative, design, and the impact of these on human existence. With grants from the Urban Humanities Research Fund, he has co-produced, co-directed, and co-edited two short documentaries: one was a short documentary series focusing on the financial costs of incarceration, while the other shed light on the intersection of carcerality, debt, and car ownership. Collaborating with a myriad of organizations, Mychal has delivered over a dozen short-form documentaries and stories, each a testament to his unwavering commitment to amplifying marginalized voices. With a deep belief in the transformative power of storytelling, Mychal envisions a future where he uses art to serve as a bridge, connecting disparate worlds and fostering empathy and understanding. As he paves his way towards a career in brand marketing and documentary filmmaking, Mychal continues to illuminate the path for others, one story at a time.
