In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Abigail Mwangi

Abigail Mwangi is 17 years old and an A' Level student at Brookhouse School. Her subjects are Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Given the recent surge in self-care culture, people are more likely to become selfish. This is why she chose to give her speech on the compatibility of kindness with self-care.

Through her work, she strives to capture and convey the essence of beauty, pain, and joy, invitingher readers and audience to experience the world as I see it. As the Rhino Cup 2023 champion in debate, she thrives on the power of language to shape ideas and inspire change. The magic of communicating emotions, cultures, and stories captivates her, and she's excited to connect with others through this shared human experience—starting with conversation.

Gabriella Mwangi

Gabriella is in Year 13 at Brookhouse School. She is passionate about STEM, art, and storytelling. She's always been curious about the world and loves exploring how math, science, and design can solve real-world problems—especially in her community. As an avid participant in STEM projects, I’ve seen how innovation can create real impact. Outside of academics, I’m a footballer and netball, blending teamwork and leadership into everything I do. She'salso an advocate for sustainability and loves using creativity to imagine a vibrant future for Kenya. When not diving into problem-solving, you can find her baking new desserts, exploring Nairobi’s vibrant art scene, or geeking out over astronomy.

Lisa Kirathe is in Year 13 in Brookhouse School. She's 18 years old, songwriter, guitarist and singer who loves Jesus! She recently released her first album, Set Apart, which can be found on all music streaming platforms. She's a scholar/scientist who pursues Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at A level and a sportiste. She enjoys playing several sports including Basketball and Football. If you don’t find her doing something related to her Faith, Music, Academics, or Sports. You can find her in the kitchen trying all sorts of gourmet and dessert recipes. Or on a beautiful, tranquil nature trail. Or engrossed in Christian fiction books.

Committed to personal growth, she strives for excellence in every endeavour, aiming to leave a lasting impact within her school community and beyond.

Naima Onyona

Naima is a first-generation Kenyan - American who moved from Washington DC, to Nairboi at age 15 and attends Brookhouse School studying composition of music. In her TEDx Talk, she explores SANKOFA, an Akan concept about reclaiming our past to move forward. Through her journey of embracing dual identities, she reflects on Kenya's growth, advocating for a society rooted in empathy, unity, and self-awareness. Naima's vision is to inspire others to honor their histories as a path to true growth and healing.
