This year, for the first time ever, the TED Prize will not go to an individual, but to an idea on which our planet's future depends: THE CITY 2.0

TEDxKisumu is part of the City 2.0 theme of events happening around the world on October 13, 2012. On this day, TEDx communities around the world will host an event to share the powerful narratives of urban innovators and organizers, stewards and artists, builders and taste makers. This is a major global event for people interested in ideas and how it shapes our urban communities.

In unison, we'll share the stories of our beloved homes: Finding the bright spots, the creative adaptations, the transformative responses to injustice, seeking to know who is asking the most pressing questions or pioneering the most complex solutions among several issues. We will hear from thought-leaders advising governments, policy makers, artists, authors, and more.

We intend to go beyond the basics of efficient urban planning, stunning architecture, and robust infrastructure. We intend to explore the soul and identities of our cities in the future: what should the dominant cultural influences be? What kind of ideas will shape our cities and our lives? What kind of art will we celebrate? What kind of governance will we institute?

These are the fundamental issues that we will explore at TEDxKisumu, part of the global TEDxCity2.0 initiative with emphasis on Kisumu City as the millennium city.
