In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

George Gachara

George Gachara is a youth worker, an author, the Co founder of the Picha Mtaani Initiative and a Global Fellow of the International Youth Foundation. He has been described as "young, strong and unbowed" by Amani Sasa Publication, "Kenya’s fast rising, notable and respected young leader" by Parents magazine, and “a true inspiration" by the Nation Newspaper.

Maxie Matthiesen

Maxie is co-founder and managing dirctor of Makit Ltd, a Kenyan registered social business providing a long-term menstrual hygiene solution to women at the Bottom of the Pyramid. She holds 6 years of international work exerience in both public and private sector and is passionate about social entrepreneurship, CSR, development and humanitarian assistance. Maxie holds a Bachelor degree in Business, Languages, and Culture from the Copenhagen School of Business and studied at the Universidad Autónoma (Madrid) and University of California in Berkeley. She loves languages and besides English, speaks German, Spanish, and Danish fluently.

Jack Nyawanga

He is a former street child and currently he owns a bone factory of making jeweleries in Kibera.

Joel Macharia

Joel Macharia is an entrepreneur and the founder of Capital Associates, a private investment company, and the Money Academy, a firm that educates people on the best way to make, save and invest money. He is a serial entrepreneur, having started a used car sales company and several other small businesses. He briefly worked at Cellulant Corporation, leaving as the Head of Product Development. He sits on the board of Afrilink Entrepreneurs, a non profit organization.

Kennedy Odede

Kennedy is an internationally recognized community organizer and social justice advocate. He was born and lived for twenty-three of his twenty-seven years in Kibera. Kennedy dreamed of finding a way to change the position of women and his society as a whole. The first time Kennedy ever had extra money—20 cents in 2004—he bought a soccer ball and started SHOFCO. Through his faith in people’s abilities to change their own lives, he expanded this group into one of the largest grassroots organizations in the slum. Kennedy is a 2010 Echoing Green Fellow, wrote an Op-Ed that appeared in the New York Times, won the 2010 Dell Social Innovation Competition, and was recently honored by President Bill Clinton. He is a senior fellow with Humanity in Action and a junior at Wesleyan University. Kennedy believes that communities like Kibera are capable of enacting solutions to their own problems. He hopes that one day no other child will have to suffer as he did and believes that as a global community we must come together to make this possible.

Caren Wakoli

Caren Wakoli is a proudly Kenyan young woman with a quest to see Article 1 of the Universal Declaration Human Rights becoming real in the lives of all Kenyans; where all Kenyans live in dignity and have access to secure livelihoods. Caren is a freelance writer as well as a consultant on matters Youth Leadership. She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in International Studies at the University of Nairobi. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. While at UON, she was one of the longest serving student leaders having served in the union for three consecutive terms; starting off as Congress-lady, Gender affairs secretary and finished off as the Vice chair of the Union.

Peter Mudamba

An accountant by profession,has a passion in theater and media.He is a peace change activist working with Kenyan youth and those in the region.
