Theme: The Other Things...

On September 12, 1962, at Rice University, John F. Kennedy declared that we would land on the moon within a decade. On that day, in our great city, Kennedy bravely announced: "We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people. ... We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too."

2503 days after that speech, we achieved that audacious goal. We stepped foot on another world for the first time, and firmly established ourselves as universal explorers. This tremendous and difficult challenge took the combined efforts of thousands of creative, motivated and courageous individuals, and inspired many more to imagine their own “moonshots.”

Now...what about those other things?

On October 12, 2013, 51 years and 1 month since that day, we will come together for the fourth annual TEDxHouston. On that day, in our great city, we will listen to, engage with, and be inspired by The Other Things -- moonshots that are audacious and courageous by their own rights. We will explore what things are changing the-world-as-we-know-it, and what other things are yet to be uncovered.

Kennedy said: "This city of Houston, this State of Texas, this country of the United States was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them. This country was conquered by those who moved forward--and so will space." Join us on this mission as we move forward and explore The Other Things!
