TEDxVictoria Salon #1: Life Lines
The first TEDxVictoriaSalon was themed “Life Lines”, and featured TED, TEDx, and TED-Ed videos with a focus on global and human health. Each talk focused on different one of these lines: Scott Gass, Boyan Slat, and Sylvia Earle talks focused on our oceans; Alex Gender spoke about evolution; Aimee Mullins’ beautiful talk about human body prosthesis and her 12(!) pairs of legs; the incredible story of how young Jack Andrake developed a promising new test to screen for Pancreatic Cander; and finally Brene Brown’s second TEDTalk about the human psyche titled “Listening to Shame.”

TEDxVictoriaSalon #2: New Norms
New Norms featured speakers and ideas that focused on new opportunities to solve our old problems. Although the standard solution may still work, it is in our best interest to put all of the options back on the table and consider a different approach. Simply because something is always done in a particular way does not mean that it is the only way, or even the right way. New ideas need a chance to present a better solution to problems and challenges, both new and old.
