Meryam Sugulle uncovers ways to improve women's future health outcomes.
Why you should listen
Meryam Sugulle, MD, PhD, emphasizes that asking the simple question — "Have you had any pregnancy complications?" — has a great potential to improve women’s future cardiovascular health. She is a senior consultant obstetrician at Oslo University Hospital, Ullevål, one of the largest delivery units in Scandinavia, and a professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Oslo in Norway. She is a Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow with a passion for quality of care and patient safety in obstetrics.Sugulle's research is centered around how a disfunctioning placenta mediates pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia and/or fetal growth restriction, as well as short- and long-term health of the mother. Shr wants to raise awareness for the health-improving potential of personalized, systematic follow-up for women after pregnancy complications within existing screening programs. Her vision is that research-initiated, innovative ways of complicated pregnancy care and follow-up after pregnancy complications may better future health outcomes for the woman — which is of importance to the whole family.
